Afraid of Vancouver!!
my Wife said she might want to move to Vancouver in 5 years time. I'm honestly afraid of all the drug and property crime in Vancouver. I'm afraid to park my car on the street outside the house for fear of smashed windows or worse - stolen car!
Can some Vancouver Camaro owners please relay their experiences of owning a Camaro in Vancouver? Perhaps also let me know the good neighbourhoods that don't have drug problems or property crime problems and have a reasonable commute times to downtown. Much appreciated!

okay so no-one can give me a straight answer? If what I've heard is untrue (and it's straight from the mouth of someone living in an apartment in Coquitlam), then please tell me YOUR experiences. That's why I asked.
I'm living in Alberta.

Actually the truth is that we tell alot of stories to keep the population down, you know how it rains all the time.....
I've lived here all my life, I do feel safe at anytime of day or night walking around. (Unless the fuzz are afoot) Never had any problems with anybody barring a few drunk idiots (who hasn't) and the cops lol. The druggies down town are more of a local entertainment as its kinda amusing watching them tweek and spec. But what larger city has no undesirables? |

So do you have any fears whatsoever parking your Camaro anywhere in particular?

I avoid parking the camaro in high traffic areas, its for driving. But malls and walmarts are absolutely off limits without someone with the car to prevent any asshatism that may occur.
I think the only place I park it is the gas station other than that its either away or driving around. |

well my buddy said there's more property crime. You're more likely to get keyed etc. which I never really hear happening in Alberta. People break in to steal something for quick drug money etc. I'm just repeating what he said. He drives a Yaris - nuff said. Another thing I'm not happy with, is that I'm likely to take a $50k pay cut by moving there. I hate it how property is expensive but salaries are less.
Thanks for the replies!

Wow..........one " expert" in a cubby hole in Coquitlam ( I grew up there) can label a metro area with 35 municipalities with a population of 2.2 million worse than Edmunchuk where EACH time my son visits there his truck gets stolen or broken into at the WE mall.
Better read what the top 10 rated cities are......... there were none from Alberta.

No, it's not just "one" expert. I hear that from other people who have moved there or moved from there. They say it's quite common for people to be selling drugs in schools.
Despite what they say though, they still prefer to live in Vancouver. This is not a fight. I'm looking for real-life information - a balanced viewpoint. Rather than being defensive, how about talking about your real-life experiences? I'm sure there are good and bad neighbourhoods - how about letting me know which are the good neighbourhoods and which are the bad? I'd be very appreciative! For me the biggest problem is money. The really good neighbourhoods cost at least $200,000 more than my house. And then when I move there I'm going to take a pay cut and pay more tax. And then with the rate of housing price growth, I'm not sure if I can keep up. So I have to consider living in a neighbourhood that is perhaps not equivalent to the one I'm living in right now - hence my concern about crime. Thanks all!
