NEW LS3 CRATE ENGINE FOR $100

The car has 50k miles and the motor quit. Probably a bad oil pump. Lucky for me the car is under warranty. So for $100, Chevy is installing a new engine. Do you guys think I'm getting another L99 or an ls3? The car was L99. But I thought they discontinued the ls3 l99.

L99. They may not be building new ones but you aren't getting a brand new engine you are getting a remanufactured engine.

L99. Greenhornet2 may be right about the remanufactured engine, but if it is under warranty, they're not going to put something close in. They're going to put a direct replacement in. It would be more risk than they're willing to accept to have to reprogram your ECU for the LS3.

Do you know what that entails? The block is used, with new internals? Where would the donor engine come? thanks

50K miles, huh? Just read somebody’s post the other day of 222K and ‘still going.’ You tend not to think of these things as mechanical crapshoots but I guess they really are. I have 4 months left for the catastrophic failure to occur!

All engines that fail under warranty get sent in for cores. they rebuild them and sell them as remans. I don't know what exactly they do. I assume they have a process to resleeve them since usually they only replace engine when there is block damage usually cylinder wall scoring. sometimes lifter bore damage, which I assume they hone or resleeve ect

Ask for the part number being installed. Can google that part number and see the description or many on here can look it up.

What's the $100 for? Shop lunch?

Deductible, must be a service contract. Which you have to be careful with, some service contracts can get an engine from a junkyard to install.

Yes the $100 is for the deductible. The warranty is from Ally which is a subsidiary of GM.

It was partially owned by GM until Dec '13, when GM sold the last bit (8.5%) of ownership stake in Ally/formerly GMAC. It had been selling down the ownership for many years. Many dealers of many brands still do use Ally. I think it works good for them not having an ownership tie to one brand, they can financially service many.

GM Financial is the current financial arm of GM.

if it's a third party warranty it will most likely be a good used motor not rebuilt i deliver them ALL the time to all dealerships.quite a few dealers that thought they were going to get a rebuilt motor and were surprised to see a used motor.but you may get lucky, did they guarantee you a rebuilt or just a replacement? now that being said i haven't had to pick up the used motor because it was bad the transmissions almost always take 2 or 3 before they get a good 1.i have the same warranty as you i will be interested to see what you get.
