Kooks high flow cat dented
Bought a set of used headers. The coupling end of the cats are both dented in exactly the same. Do you think I can reform them by attaching them to the headers and tightening the bolts until they are returned to their original shape.

An idea. I would take a ball peen hammer and attempt to make it true again. Then bolt them up and tighten. How do the header side connections look?

Will need to be beaten out some or it won't even set in the socket to tighten it.

Thanks guy, the header tips look good. I don't know what would have happened to the cats.

Could have been dropped to cause the dent . Simple fix with a hammer .

True, but both cats in the same location seems strange.

couldn't a hammer loosen the insides of the cat. Id take it to a muffler shop and have them reshape it.

Use a crescent wrench and roll it that way.

Do you have a torch? Heat it blazing red hot, tighten it down to the header ball. If it's hot enough, it'll shape itself. Hammering it may not be so great on the guts, and may just cause an irregular dented up shape tough to seal. Wait till its cherry red in that area, and use hardened bolts and nuts, should draw it together.

I went ahead and reshaped them with a hammer. Hopefully it won't leak.
