new Motor Trend Mustang test

I just got the April issue of MT in the mail today, and they did a first test of the 2010 Mustang GT. They managed to get a 4.9-second 0-60 time and 13.5-second 1/4-mile time out of it. The handling numbers are pretty impressive too. What with the new Z, this GT, and the Challenger SRT8, the SS is gonna have some good competition out there. Another encouragement is, if they can get those kinds of numbers from a near 3,600-lb, 315-HP Mustang, I'll bet we're gonna see a faster-than-4.7-second 0-60 time in the 3,800-lb, 426-HP Camaro! :headbang

The magazine also has the new Z/28 as the cover story, but it's exactly the same story as was found on the website in another post, along with the obviously-photoshopped pictures (which still look oh so sweet).

Keep in mind we are getting the dead rear, not the 3:73 so the times will not be the best. The top speed numbers will be awesome..

Yeah, forgot about the gearing, although 3.42 isn't bad either, especially since it makes our fuel economy numbers better. And since this is gonna be my daily driver, along with the majority of buyers, I'd say it's worth it.

Speaking of the 3.73 gearing, for $1495, the Track Pack on the GT is actually a good deal for what they give you. I know it sounds like I'm singing the Mustang's praises here (scary), but really, it's just respect and I'm impressed. Wouldn't be much of a rival if I didn't have some kind of respect for it...

Yeah, I read an article about the new Z/28 in either R&T or C&D. It was pretty much an LS with a new hood and bumper.

IMO, yes. 3.73 (expected in next year's model) would be a much better fit and not cost too much in MPG. However, it might be just enough to lower it to gas guzzler range...

the general rule was 4.10's for the manuals and 3.73s for auto.

Ya, because of the usual 6-spd vs 4-sp deal. Now we've got 6/6. My point was the fuel mileage tradeoff against a possible gas guzzler tax and some more bucks in gas each fillup...

I Will Take My Camaro with Launch Control and some Drag Radials any day!

Have you got to be out of your mind. The Camaro with 370 HP to the ground with Launch Control to correct my launch errors. Its going to be in the low 12's high 11's if you put some nice sticky rubber under it. Remember its not really a quarter mile drag.....it really what happens in the first 60 ft that will chop the time off. Hope you Stang fans out there like the look of the ass end of the Camaro's cause you will be seeing a lot of them.
