That's brutal! I'm at 38k miles on my 2010, have been changing the oil with Mobil 1 every 3k miles since I got it (6 miles on the odometer when I bought it) and I even bought the extended warranty (6 years, 72k bumper to bumper) . . . I have a feeling something like this is going to happen to me, too.

We are pretty similar - watched 'em roll it off the truck. I changed out to Mobil 1 when I did my first oil change at 500 miles and religiously thereafter. Best scenario is to hope the chains go slack and kick the proper CEL code before 100,000 miles.

Is it me or does this seem to only be happening to the 2010 cars? Am I mistaken?

The Cadillacs ran synthetic and had stretched chains. Hopefully the new ones have different metallurgy .

that seems to be what's happening here. I own a 2010. 29,000 miles, only owned it a week, hasn't happened yet to me. But looks like I get to look forward to it.

Ditto, 29,750 miles and may never get to 100k.

I am out of warranty as of August.

There are some field actions pertaining to certain vehicles regarding the extension. It's also on a case-by-case basis that warranties are extended.

Does anyone know if the warranty was extended on this timing chain issue? Of course I am out of my 5 year warranty, but still under 100k miles and getting the code that the timing chain issue is occurring.

Also, anyone know how long you can push continuing to drive with this code? Do I risk a more catastrophic failure? Just paid off the car in August and this just sucks.

should not be 2k, more like $1,200 for what others reported.

I had posted this in May of 2012 about my 2010 2LT. At that time I had about 33k miles on it. It was covered under warranty at that time.

Just heard back from the dealership, 2x , 1st time they told me nothing was wrong with it except it was a half quart low on oil I told them to check again as the noise was in the front by the belt , They call back about 2 hours later and say " I had them look at it again , The mechanic said it is just the camshaft extractor doors opening at full capacity when starting up. everything is fine and it is ready to be picked up . "
Couple things here it makes the sound at various times and after driving for miles not just on start up . I have owned the car for 4 years now and this is a new noise , Now I dont know what to do?? Any suggestions . Should I just continue driving it till the sounds get more defined / louder? Thanks
