Viper 5901 on Camaro?
Has anyone installed an aftermarket alarm on the Camaro? I was thinking about purchasing the DEI 5901 and thought I would ask the forum for advice. Thanks in advance for all your input and advice!!

I went to BB to ask about this alarm. The tech said he could do it, but it would take 5-6 hours to install. So there goes my Saturday cruisin plans.

6 hours? WHOA!!!! What do they have to do? I was reading up on the alarm and noticed the 5902 is coming out. Looks like the only diff is a HD screen on the 2 way pager. Is that what you are going with?

If you just get the alarm they have to take the dash apart and splice into the wiring behind the dash. If you get any accessories they will also have to splice into certain areas of the car for them as well. When I inquired about it, I was told about 5 hours but until they actually do a Camaro they wouldn't know for sure as some cars are harder then others.

Works great, I'm getting the defroster option added on black friday to help with windows and snowy days.

I had Bestbuy install a stereo once(cause I was lazy at the time), they destroyed my car...they put holes in the headliner and hacked wires...never again... Had to take them to small claims court for justice

The problem with Best Buy is their senior staff that actually has experience installing things usually means 1 year of installation. Most of the time its somebody on the job for a few months with very little on the job training. That and when they see a new car like the Camaro or GT500 they salivate at pulling off that dash so they can say they worked/destroyed the car.

Then who would you recommend to put in car alarms for those who have no installers around besides Best Buy and Radio Shack? For the vast majority of people there are only three options, Best Buy, Radio Shack, or do it themselves.

No I'll stick to the 5901. I didn't see any diff in features. The price diff needs to be explained to me before I'm sold on the 5902.

I agree with you. I stopped by an Ultimate Electronics where they sell the Clifford version of the 5902. Salesperson even admitted the only difference between the 2 was the colored HD 2 wa page. 200 extra for that? Crazy

I have the Viper 5901 with the Street Eagel Gps system on top.
1st had it installed at a Audio shop I trust. The camaro has a totaly new Ignition modular and the Co. were working on Firm where to alow remote start through the Aftermarket Hardware. This was 3 months ago. My install was drawn out over several months due to this. My system is now fully functional by going a old school way of by getting a 3rd chipset (Key w/Fob) from dealer and having all 3 keys sinked; Key $65 Programing $50. Granted my install started in June of this year. I would hope at least 1 of the main 3 Co. that write the Firm ware have somthing now. The viper will page up to 1 mile if some one is bothering the car. I also get Text Messages if any of the Paramiters of the Street eagle are violated (Speed setting, Geo fencing, or any alarm codes) this is backed up with a E-mail, and Car is trackable and controble from the Street eagle web site. Hope this helps; I would question any shop that says they can install no problam. 1st question have you done a 2010 yet and is it working fully and correctly Cool; SRFnSNO Eric |

Thanks for the insight. The 1st question I ask the installers is have they installed an alarm on the camaro. None at this time have been able to say yes, and that has me a little apprehensive, which has caused me to think i might need to wait it out.
