how accurate is the oil life % in the DIC

That was me. I had Blackstone Labs test my oil. I've done it for several of my vehicles.

Yes, you have to check your oil level.

Peel those stupid stickers off the inside of your windshield and throw them away. You're already wasting money paying somebody else to change your oil, they put in Brand X, then you're letting them tell you when it "needs" to be done again? Bobistheoilguy is a lot smarter than me...and you. But that's just my opinion, of course.

Oil level measures the amount of oil in your engine, where the oil life monitor measures the amount of lubrication left in your oil you have in your engine. Two completely seperate things.

The only reason the sticker says that is because they want your money. Even in the old days the 3,000 miles was for severe use, otherwise it was 5 or 6 thousand miles. The oil life monitor actually measures how you are using your engine so it figures out for you how long it can go between changes. It's science,and it works, You go by the sticker you are wasting your money.

You dont come off as smart ass. Discussion and OTHER POINTS OF VIEW are what this forum is all about.....yet, at times it gets very one sided. I have made it a point to show there are always other options. The point i was trying to make, is people need to do their own research and decide what is best for them and not let technology run their lives. There are so many posts here where people have relied soley on the car to tell them what to do.....i.e., not checking their oil level regularly because the car didnt tell them it was low, then, boom, trashed motor. The other pount was, if you rely so heavily on your car telling you what to do, then it needs a check oil reminder as well.
I will say no more on this subject as I appear to have rattled the narrow minded. My job here is done.

Thanks for chiming in. I was not sure who posted it and even not sure how close I am on the mileage numbers. I just remember reading it and was vague on mileage.

Technology is a wonderful thing these days. Since I am getting older I have a hard time making changes and accepting it. To each his own on how you handle your oil change. I am accepting this technology and using it.

I have two GM/Chevy cars with the internal OLM's. I use them both as I feel they're a great tool to monitor ones oil condition. If you don't feel it's that accurate then just use a good synthetic oil like Mobil 1 and go by the OLM says. If Mobil says they're oil is good for let's say 10K you know the oil will be changed by then.

GM changed / shortened their algorithm on the V6 due to timing chain issues.

You'll love this then. I use $11.00 Qt. Joe Gibbs LS30 oil and when I change it, the oil life monitor is usually 75% to 77% remaining, but never less than 75%.
