And Civic's are just the butt ugliest cars that exist not called an Aztec or a Prius. Not to mention, at least around here, people who drive Civics are generally some of the worst drivers on the road. I have more disdain for that car that almost any other car on the road. |

I bought a C6 Corvette a bunch of years ago and used it as a daily driver for my 50 mile round trip commute. After a couple of years, I retired it to sunny day only duty (it's a black convertible and seeing it dirty all the time drove me nuts).
For a couple of years after that, I drove my 2004 Cavalier on the same commute. I bought it as a tow car behind our motorhome, but it made a decent commuter when I didn't want to take out the Vette. When my son turned 16, my wife insisted that I gave the Cavalier to him because she wanted him to have a reliable vehicle (I wanted to buy him something that he could learn to work on). I replaced the Cavalier with my Camaro SS that I still use as my daily driver on the same commute. The Corvette only comes out when the weather is nice. A Cavalier would serve you well, but it would be pure utility. It's not particularly comfortable or fun to drive. The Camaro will leave you enjoying the commute. From a purely financial point of view, the Cavalier will probably get 32mpg vs your Camaro's 22mpg. On a 90 mile round trip, this will save you about 1.25 gallons per trip. Figuring $3 a gallon, this is $3.75 per day, or $18.75 per week. It would take about 2.5 years for the Cavalier to pay for itself. Plus, it is mostly depreciated, so it would not lose much more value in this time. Plus, it would keep your Camaro from racking up over 50,000 additional miles in the same period. TL;DR: Best financial decision: Cavalier. Best I'm-willing-to-pay-to-enjoy-the-ride decision: Camaro. |

With your plan of moving into a 6th-gen, I'd definitely use your current Camaro for your commute. Save your money and you should be in good shape when you decide to buy your next Camaro. I don't believe the miles you accrue over the next 18 to 24 months will have much of an effect on the trade value.

How about these? I've owned both. Both still somewhat quick and you won't hate driving them like a base model.
2001 Cavalier Z24 $3,499 117k miles at McCafferty Automotive in Lanhorne PA 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T - $2,650 117K miles at Pioneer Group in Belleville NJ Sorry I couldn't get the links. Was using my cars.com app and couldn't figure out how to get the link. |

I split my 80+ mile drive between my 03 tahoe & the SS. It's not bad. The tahoe was my daily until February of this year

I love driving my 03 and Camaro too much to add a 3rd car, if I was going to get a "commute car" it would be a toyota camry as those things barely need repairs and get good gas mileage
Not sure about Cavalier as not driven one or known anyone to have one Civic, you should be worried what the previous owner may have done to it, as those cars are kid mod friendly. Just hope you don't Bell (fart) muffler it so it makes all that noise and goes nowhere lol If you are getting a loan make sure it's definitely a good car worht the loan, would hate for you to buy a clunker and then hate it and you wish you were driving your Jeep or Camaro instead. Best of luck in your decision and grats on your new job. |

You can pay to maintain and put alot of gas in that sweet Camaro for years, for the cost of another car plus insurance.
