Dedicated track tires

Based in the latest tires and tire technology, if you had to select a dedicated track tire that could be driven on the street (no daily driving), which would you chose in a 305/30/19 size?

I'm leaning toward NT-01 but I've seen historical recommendations for other brands and some other brands are a little more economical.

I know a few people who run the ADVAN Neova AD08 R and love it. And if you look at the super lap battles and time attack in Japan this is the tire they primarily run.

And now it comes in 305/30/19 $350 per on tirerack too

Travis,

I drive 60 miles from my girlfriend's house to the track on Hoosier R6s / R7s. That tire is amazing. Best all around track tire.

If you're looking for something more streetable and will last longer, my friends that have driven both Pirelli Trofeo Rs and NT01s are telling me that the Trofeo Rs are faster than the NT-01s, and they probably last longer as well.

I track with Hoosiers exclusively, I love them. The R7s last longer than the R6s and have similar grip.

I get about 10 heat cycles on the Hoosiers before they begin losing grip, but it depends on the track.

My issue with the Trofeo tires is they're about 20% more $. I wonder if they would last 20% longer?

I'm not ready for the Hoosier tires yet but I know you were bad fast on them.

I agree with Orange. It is not how long they last, but how many heat cycles you can get before they loose grip. Each heat cycle hardens the rubber, the more heat cycles the worse they get even though you may have plenty of wear left. Once they harden up the wear slows down but they get greasy.

I don't disagree...it's the same question...do the Trofeo's have 20% more heat cycles in them?

It's a good question, not sure if there's enough data out there to know. I do know that NT01s are grippy all the way to cord (at least that was my experience, but I ran them at two tracks that wore them out quickly).

I don't think you'd be dissapointed in the NT01s, I doubt if they're much worse than the Trofeos. I liked the NT01s a lot. May be worth saving the money.

MPSC 2 might also be a good option if it has similar traction to NT01s with a longer life. As a bonus, they're also pretty good when wet unlike most other track tires.

If it were my money, though, I'd buy NT01s. At $359/tire, they are a bargain, and at least on my other cars, they lasted pretty long and more importantly, they kept their performance until they corded. This is of utmost importance for me, since I am racing against myself more than anyone else, and consistent tires allow me to gauge the effect of changes I made in driving.

I thought about the MPSC 2 as well since they're about the same money as the Trofeo's. I'm a fan of Michelin tires but really don't think for the money vs longevity vs performance I'm going to go that direction.

That is the exact tire I am running on my new track set up. My first track event with them was this past Sunday. I was impressed with them for sure.
