Cost to cam?

My SS is not even put away yet but I'm already looking forward to spring.

What did you pay to get a cam installed and where did you get it done?

TIA.

Bought the whole kit and did mine in the garage with the help of some DIY write-ups on this forum. Any shop would probably be around $2-2500 with a tune I'm guessing.

4K for all upgraded valve train parts, cam, installation dyno and driving tune at Davenport in Calgary AB. Went with the GT14 cam. Higher price but totally worth it when you work with a top tier shop.

I just did a Stage 4 BTR Cam kit, ceramic coated headers, plugs and wires and a street tune for just under $2400.

Night and day difference and love it.... but also love the power add and want more and looking at turbo setups

most higher end shops will be around the $4k range as they will do all the associated upgrades to go with the cam.

Cam + Springs + Pushrods installed and tuned should come to around 3K CAD. If your going with oil pump and chain that will increase the cost as the pan needs to be dropped.

Fair bit more, labour alone is double what it is on the 5th gen + the longer list of parts.

I got my TSP cam kit for 599$usd, the lowest price I have ever seen. Ti retainers, double springs 650', 7.4 pushrods, valve seals and the 231 236 on 11lsa cam !! I added Melling hi-pres oil pump for 119$ Then got my timing chain(new LT1 replacement), 3bolts gear set+bolts+timing cover gaskets and LS2 dog bone style timing chain adjuster(a must) from gmpartsdepot.ca for around 150$cad.

I did it myself for 0$ 1st time cam swap, but I have some basic/good knowledge with tools and engines. I use DIY here and on LS1howto. I have a thread on it. The real challenge was; oil pump bolt and alignment and swapping the springs without a real tool(nightmare but so easy with the tool).

Tune I went with Pat Guerra remote and datalog tune with Autocal. Was around 650$ with free retune for 1 year and awesome service. Cant go wrong!! The includes handheld device, which you can resell after.

You need tools like the valvespring tool (absolute MUST!!) TFS is 79$ from Summit. A good breaker bar, and 1 or 2 torq wrench; 1 for small job and not too big for inch-foot and one bigger good for 250lbs pound-foot. Pushrod lenght checker 20$ is a good idea too.

New oil 80$cad+filter12$(Amsoil Zrod and Wix filter), you can reuse the coolant or new 50$. I suggest that you run at least Signature series Amsoil 5w30 or Zrod for extra-extra zinc protection and if weekend car, or any equivalent oil, there is not so many. Dont run off the shelves Canadian Tires oil for modded valvetrain. Signature series have a significant higher rate of zinc(900ish ppm) and Zrod even more(1440ppm).

All in all it was less than 2k$cad but with all the upgrade, except maybe the rockers bushings upgrade. Dont do other rockers upgrade, they are not reliable. I'd leave the rockers stock, very safe component.
