I've shown this a few times here. On long trips I tie down an extra tire & wheel in
my trunk. A $3.00 NAPA strap secures it at the right rear trunk corner of my SS.
I also have AAA so I'm not about to get stuck. There's also a bit of trunk space left.

I bought one of the kits from Performance Spare. Fits on top of the battery good. Does stick up a bit with the redesigned wheel. But I like the piece of mind.

I need to do this ASAP. Close call last night that could have turned out much worse. cconn do you have a link for performance spare? Is it an ebay kit? Still kind of thinking full size front wheel may be a good choice as well... I travel way too much for the inflator kit/ onstar assisted tow into a dealer that probably wont have a tire. Work deadlines are usually not flexible enough to blow a day or longer trying to get a flat taken care of.

Hello All, reviving this thread.

Has anyone ordered from ModernSpare recently? Their website is up, accepted my order, sent an order confirmation but there's been no follow up mail after ~1 week. I've called the number listed on their website, but there's no answer.

Any info would be helpful.

Disregard, I was able to get in touch them. Parts are on back order, hence the delay. Their email notification of that delay was sent to my spam folder instead of inbox.

Happy Motoring.

I know this is years later, but does anyone know what size thickness spacer to use with the factory spare?

When you buy a BMW spare wheel, you don't need any spacers and it will fit under the bottom of the trunk.

George-CZ:

Do you happen to have the part # for that wheel handy? Also, what size tire are you running on the spare? I’m trying to find a setup that will fit the spare tire basin but that also will accommodate my Alky meth pump that’s mounted to one side of the basin.

I was looking on the Bimmer forum and there’s lots of confusion there about which wheel will fit the X5 F15 models, especially the ones with larger calipers. I was surfing some vendor sites and was seeing conflicting fitment charts, too.

Thanks
