Glue Residue From Stripes

Hello! I have just removed my rally stripes yesterday and am having a tough time getting the glue residue off. I was easily able to get it off on my trunk and Spoiler with goo gone but the hood is a whole new beast. I have tried goo gone (soaking for 5-10 min), WD-40, adhesive remover, polish on a drill with a pad, credit cards, microfiber towels. No luck on any of that. What worked for you? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks! Name: 4BD13EBA-CE04-48FB-9519-6386AB37B507.jpg

Update: after reading through the comments, I have ordered a 3M eraser wheel from advanced auto parts. I will post another update once I have tried it to let you all know how it worked

Second update (after using the wheel): this thing is AMAZING. This was my last ditch effort before just buying a whole new hood. I worked and a local car detailer worked on the hood with usual tactics (goo gone, WD-40, adhesive remover spray, etc.) with no budge at all. In the picture I did half the top of the stripe (it looked the both on each half) and it took that residue off no problem! This thing is amazing and if used correctly and slowly will not damage your paint. I was skeptical but am so happy I gave it a shot. Thank you to everyone on this thread who helped me out and pointed me in this direction. Thanks!Name: EDA51649-0DFF-4D05-8D20-8BAA9D16AA77.jpg

Try this 3M wheel. It works great.

3M Specialty Adhesive Remover solvent is the BOMB!!! Get it at the Auto Paint Supply store near you. Generally will not hurt painted surfaces but dissolves glue like crazy. I use it on many things. Great for replacing the glued on weatherstrips on my lacquer painted '80 Corvette.

I used goo gone for autos when I had some glue left over from when I pulled off the dealer decals. After I was done, I put a coat of wax over everything.

Second that vote! I keep a can of that stuff all the time, it's versatile. Glue remover, adhesive remover, TAR remover..........

I prefer the rectangle can as opposed to the aerosol can.

Is this easy to mess up your paint with?

Is this much more effective than WD-40 or Goo Gone? Because both of those did nothing to this residue.

When I removed my rear Bow tie emblem it left that thick adhesive that was hell to remove. The 3M adhesive removal wheel made short work of it. There should be a youtube video on how to use it properly. I had my fear of doing damage to my paint too. Believe me, it works without damage to the paint. Again, check out the youtube video first.

I have damaged paint with one. The best advice to to take the edge off and round it down before touching the paint. The sharp edges that are on it when new can cut through paint in seconds. Otherwise, they do work great. Just need to be very careful.

Edit: The one I damaged paint with was not a 3M, but some Amazon off brand (Whizzy Wheel?) - The one I used successfully was a 3M and used a softer compound which worked great.

remover

Do a seach for Malco Label and Adhesive Remover. I have used it, has a strong smell but does the job. Doesn't harm the paint.

Before you buy a whole bunch of products/tools for something you won't be using again, give your local detailer a call and see what they would charge.

Whatever window tinters use to remove old tint. On the rear window is the defroster. They can’t scape that glue off but use some kind of solvent.

I’m really surprised this thread has so many suggestions. I would hope one worked and we all knew what it was.
