Hagerty insurance is a joke

I just got off the phone (mind you I am in Afghanistan and phone calls arent as easy here) with a completely rude asshole from Hagerty. I applied for their insurance yesterday and today my dad gets a call from them telling him that they wont insure my ZL1 because I want to drive it more than 3,500 miles a year and my daily driver is more than 5 years old. What kind of BS is that. They want me to pay almost $2500 a year to only drive 3500 miles, I might as well throw a dollar out my window every mile I drive. If you were thinking of going with them I would think twice.

The real question is why would you call a classic car insurer for a new car?

Haggerty insurance insures classic/collector cars that are driven low miles. You're a joke for this thread.

My '69 SS is insured for $50k and only cost $375 a year with hagerty. I had a '68 that I totaled about 5 years ago, Hagerty paid 100% of the agreed value with no problems. Personally, I love Hagerty.

Hagerty is a company.
Hagerty is in business to make money.
They know what the risks are for a new Camro let alone a ZL1..
My 65 years old Olds 88 costs $150.00 a year to insure.

I have my 2011 insured through them. I have an agreed amount with them for what I paid for the car plus coverage on all the mods done to it also. I still pay less than if I went through a normal insurance company. Now they did ask about my daily driver, and it is an 05. But they said it was fine. And I don't know if it's because this is my 4th car insured through them, but I have no complaints.

Had same experience. Got rejected because I drive a 97 GMC daily. I dont even put 2000 miles a year on my daily driver but Hagerty's position is if your regular driver is past a certain age it will be more apt to break down causing you to drive the car they are insuring for pleasure only. I had my IROC insured with them for years and found them to be great and very affordable. They did require the car to be garage kept when not in use also in my policy I had with them. I believe they only worry about what age your daily is when you ask to insure a new car because they didnt care what I had when I went to insure the IROC

Assuming you are in the service, (thank you very much!), why not USAA ?

Call Grundy no limitation on miles per year you just need to have a newer primary vehicle.

The best thing is your car is insured for an agreed value not market value. So if you insure the ZL1 for $65k and it's totaled you get $65k.

I have been with Grundy for 9 years

I used to have insurance through allstate, and I didnt have a problem with them, but I was curious about all these esurance commercials so I decided to go online and see what the deal was, I have done this in the past with other companies and the rates were always comparable to my allstate policy, so why change?

With allstate i was paying 140$ a month for full coverage on 2 vehicles.
With esurance I pay 300$ every 6 months for full coverage on 2 vehicles.

It's worth checking out.

I did end up going with USAA, my rate was ridiculous with them at first but after talking to the lady and her realizing that my car is a limited production car she transfered me to their collectors car insurance people, it is not actually USAA but it is through them, their price was half of what Hagerty wanted. I was going to check out Grundy but decided to check USAA first and for the price they are giving me I didn't bother checking with Grundy.

Is it an agreed value or market value if the car is totalled?

Ive checked out USAA recently and they were about 400 a year less expensive than Nationwide on my 2 cars. They adjust their rate based in how many miles you drive a year, so this would make a ZL1 less expensive if you only drive it as a second car. Unfortunately, they were approximately $700 higher than Nationwide for almost the same coverage on my home, since its bundled with my auto at nationwide, so right now I'm staying with them.
