Hmmmmmm. The Road and Track mag says the SRT is electronicly limited to 168mph. Though Motor Trend says it doesn't have a speed limiter and will easily run over 170. Who knows, mabey their test car didn't have a speed limiter?

5TH GEN BURNOUTS!

There is no way they will put H-rated tires on it, you ever use them they're horrible, and the V6 will perform as well as 4th gen Z28's and SS's, and they came with Z-rated. Plus Z-rated tires can handle 149+, and they handle quite well, if the V6 is limited at 155 like Road and Track says they'll have to put Z-rated tires on it.

it's a 6.1 litre HEMI... If this car can get to 4.5 0-60... Man that would be incredible... So if you fellas are hoping for 4.4's I just can't wait...

They have shown on a couple shows that I have seen on tv that the SRT8 tops out at 173 -- the Camaro should at least hit that I think. My Speed6 hits 155 and I expect my Camaro to top that. My older 98 SS I had hit 160 - after Hypertech.

Has anyone done the math on the gearing to see at what speeds the V8 is hitting its powerband? I suspect top speed will be seen in 5th gear, and it reaaly depends if they optimized the gearing to achieve max speed where the engine achives max power (and that brings up another discussion, I dont belive they have correctly published the correct RPM at which max power is achieved). I'm guessing you want the L99 turing around 5000 - 5400 and the LS3 about 5400 - 5600, but as I said, its just an educated SWAG

Ok, this is what I did.... Jumped on Forza Motor Sports for my 360. Grabbed a 2002 Camaro gave it 425hp (close i could get it) and entered the trany ratios to give me a top end speed.
Most top end is limited by drag / hp / gear. SS Model TR6060 - 178.1 - Manual SL80 - 182.8 - Auto LS/Lt Model Closest to hp I could get was 325 AY6 - 183.7 - Manual SL50 - 167.2 - Auto Thought the info would be kind of neat.

It just shows us how much thought that went into the gearing also. . .
I never said it was going to be a real life situation. . . both runs was with a v8- just different HP. I'm no math dude, thus I didn't want to calculate all the gears out myself.

The other thing to consider with that is rolling diameter of the tires. Bigger wheel+tire combos act like taller gearing allowing you to go a bit faster. The SS speeds do seem about right, as does the auto V6

never thought about changing the tires sizes. . . don't know if it is worth going back and doing it.
