2012 camaro intermittent engine dies

this is my first post as a new member of this site. I was given a 2012 camaro because it was a problem child for the lady that owned it and she just got tired of no one being able to fix the problem it was having. the lady said the car would run fine in the city but it had the problem of the engine (occasionally) shutting down at interstate speeds. She would coast to the side of the highway an sit for about 20 minutes and the car would start up and she could continue her trip. Sometimes it would go for days before it would act up again and sometimes it would shut down later on down the highway. The car has sat unused since 2017 but it started up after fresh gas and a battery charge. The car has 140k miles and a 4 cam v-6 engine. There are no error codes logged to read. I am a retired aircraft mechanic of 41 years and have always loved to work on cars. I'm looking for some ideas on where to start troubleshooting this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A data logger of some type like HP Tuners or a Tech2 clone would likely pinpoint the problem pretty quickly. My guess would be a fuel or wiring issue.

I bet $20 it's a fuel pump going bad but I agree get a data logger and just leave it plugged in so you capture the next event when it shuts down.

I agree with you.
Basic procedures such as checking the fuel pressure before starting, and more detailed check of the wiring in typical places could solve the problem.

This would be your best bet to find out what's up. Good luck..

And this would be what I would do to "catch" it.. Then go from there. I'm thinking it is a fuel issue with the pump because it sat for so long.Maybe the connections at the pump causing it to be intermittent.

I’ve seen crank position sensors cause this exact problem and not throw a code.

I checked the fuel pressure while the engine was running at idle and it was at 44psi. It didn't change as i revved up the engine. I am going to take it on a test drive tomorrow and see what the fuel pressure does if i can get the engine to die. I'll see if I can get my hands on a data logger too.
