I appreciate them holding my Camaro like GM did instead of shipping it and letting the problem surface later which to me would be worse than waiting a few more weeks and getting it right. I for one think its a good call on GM to hold mine and make sure it is fixed before I get my baby. Hopefully GM will expedite the fix though.

Here is something that is interesting.

Go hit the spastic squirrel database and look at the cars that were done before the shutdown. Quick count on the first 3 pages (150 cars) only 16 are manuals. You can't tell me that manuals make up less than 10% of the cars ordered.

For some reason, my m6 was not produced last week when it was supposed to have been. Might be something to this.

I have a few questions to all who have had transmission issues with the 6 speed manual and especially the broken output shaft issue.

Is your repaired or new transmission any better that the last one?

Have you been brave enough to try the launch control again or even consider trying to get any wheel spin?

Any repaired or replaced transmissions break again?

My tranny snapped the tailshaft off at 550 miles. Wasn't being very hard on it, but I see 2 problems. The shaft is weak where the splines end. The big problem we all have to understand is to look at the contact patch of the huge 20' tires. Get that much rubber hot and sticky, drop the clutch and somethings going to give...and it did. I was at SLP Track Day at Dallas in 03 & watched 3 ZO6's drop the rear diff. They had slicks on, & theres nowhere for the power to go. If you bust yours, expect a good chance of a visit by a GM rep to verify any Mods. Luckily, I had only chopped the mufflers off. A new tranny was overnighted from the Tremec plant in Mexico, & I was rollin'. What a bummer!! 426 HP and I can't use it!!

The VIN range gets bigger and bigger on this failure.

From what i have read the tranny is the TR6060. I read a thread in camarofirebird.com that identified the T-56 tranny as having major problems. It seems the T-56 formally made by Borg Warner was sold and Tremec started making them in Mexico. Problems quickly arouse due to inferior materials and worksmanship. I would have thought that GM would not have used a tranny with problems in a brand new car. Does anyone have any knowledge of the TR6060 tranny having issues?

I got mine back monday and drove it the same way as when it broke and had no problems as of yet. A GM rep. call me friday to ask question on how i was driving when it broke so they could adress the problem. Seems to me GM want to get to the root of the problem and fix it , and not put blame on our driveing. That ment alot to me .... ( My vin is in the 16531 range.)
