Question about SBC 461 heads. - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Is there any chance that someone out there might know why someone would have went through the trouble to have ported the intake runners on a set of SBC 461 heads (casting# 3782461 from 1964) like this? I can’t fathom a good reason for doing it but at the same time it had to have been done for a purpose and it looks like really good work other than seeming like it would cause a tremendous loss in torque. I would really appreciate if anyone had any ideas of why this may have been done and if they think these heads are even useable like this?
