I am no mechanic so I don't know about damage to the engine with prolonged use of 87. But I can tell the difference in performance between that and 93 is noticable. When I used to drive a certain german brand, it would spit, hack and generally be mad at me for putting anything less than 93 in the tank. I can sense that as well in the ls3. To each his own.

Lucky me I fill up on average 2 and a half times a week and get 21mpg driving like miss daisy on 93. Thinking of switching to regular my self as my car is not performing well to begin with. Saving 500 -1k a year is nothing to shake your head about and ads up quick over the years. I could see if you bring you car to the track regularly you want want to keep 93.

The one thing most of you are overlooking concerning gas prices, is where you live.
Here in N.Y.S and the area I live in it`s way higher than the national average, Average prices for Western New York, Buffalo, Rochester and Niagara Falls. Reg. 2.73 Mid. 2.84 Prem. 2.96 Florida (ave.) Reg. 2.45 Mid. 2.55 Prem. 2.75 North Carolina (ave.) Reg. 2.45 Mid. 2.55 Prem. 2.70 So yes, if gas price should go through the roof again gas prices in my part of the world is a very big deal. If you live in the South you pay as much for High Test as I do for Regular, so consider yourselves lucky. If you`re interested, look up the gas prices in your area and compare it to what others are paying. www.gasbuddy.com |

Other than trying to save $3 a fill up why even entertain the thougt of running sub 91 Octane in a high performance engine? I don't get why people ask this. If you're worried about $3...I don't think this is the right car for you.

It all depends on compression rato. Higher compression pistons require a high octane fuel which has a lower flash point which prevents detonation. Anything around 8.5 to 9. to 1, I would use a higher octane. while on the question, does anyone know the compression ratio of the LS3?

Probably one where you don't have to worry about what type of gas it needs. So yeah, anything that isn't high performance. Aveo would probably do it for you.

Sorry did not mean to
A station near by has 105 octane VP Gas I plan to fill it up with that when I get the car. Have you tried the 100 octane?

There is a gas station in a neighboring town to me with 100, I put in my bike once and car once or twice. Couldn't really tell a difference in car, could a little in bike.
