1LE Ground Clearance vs stock 2SS
Does any one know how much lower the 1LE is compared to a stock 2SS for the 2014 model year? I was doing my daily commute this morning and there are two spots on my commute where I saw a stock Volvo station wagon scrape the pavement. I was planning on ordering a 1LE but now I'm having second thoughts. I live in the mountains and I have a feeling this will be an issue several places around town. I'm actually pretty sure I'll have to remove the front splitter to even get close to where I need to go on my commute. If the 1LE is much lower than the stock SS then I think the 1LE is not going to work.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Todd |

Well from my experience I have not really noticed any ground clearance differences/issues compared to the 2011 2SS that I traded in for my 1LE. I'm pretty sure the suspension on the 1LE does not change the ride height, the only slight difference in ride height comes from the wheel/tire combination. The 1LE wheels/tires have an overall diameter that is a little shorter than the SS wheels.

The front splitter would negatively affect clearance going up hills. You could remove and sell If you did t like it

Don't let this stop you!! A 1LE is soooooo worth the money and wait. Just the look alone not to mention the performance upgrades.... the splitter can be removed if it doesn't work in your area, just be sure to try it before assuming you will have issues

The splitter is not the low point, but you do need to be careful approaching inclines. The lowest point on mine is the exhaust brackets just behind the front wheels where there's not much more than 4.5" even though I think the official quote is 5".

A 1LE uses stock SS springs. So like the guys said it's really only the tires that drop it. The front spitter adds little to lower but extents the front and does away with that curve on the bottom of an SS's nose.
This is my first 5th Gen so I have nothing personally to compare to. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 4

You don't need to install the splitter. Just tell your dealer to leave it off the car for you. Unless the factory is now installing them on the 14 models...
There are some pretty steep driveways here and it's not been a problem for me if I go up at an angle, I only scraped once. Also, I've not been up any steep mountain roads yet but if there is "any" chance of there being any snow or ice or heavy rain, do yourself a favor and get all-season tires/wheels mounted. That I'd personally be more concerned with that than the ground clearance.

Really.
I would rather have a 1LE and watch out for the front splitter than not have one.
The freakin car is so awesome for the money. Dude, buy it, love it and dont look back. JUst sayin When you pull into spots watch the front splitter on the curbs and tire stops. Jim |

So is it better to pull in at a sharp angle or as straight as possible on to the driveway to prevent scraping? When I pulled out of the driveway going out nose first (forward), I did not scrape at all. I am thinking maybe I should try backing in. Thoughts?

I dropped my 1LE and LOOOOVVEE the stance now. I use extreme caution on inclines and speed bumps as my exhaust is literally 3 1/2 inches from the ground. Get one dont be escared!

So you are scraping but just going extremely slow in those situations?

My 1LE has a TPW of this week...once I get it I plan to back in to my driveway and pretty much every parking spot possible.

I scrape the underside of the front splitter occasionally but it doesn't really bother me. You can't see it and I figure it's not a very expensive part to replace if it really does get damaged.
Have scraped the exhaust though |
