first oil change, what do I tell them about lift?

how do I keep them from damaging the underside, where should they lift, I think Im buying the ZL1 add on pads, but is there a safe place they can lift without them? sorry if this is kind close to same topic of my last thread

Generally, the most inexperienced kid in the shop does the oil changes.

Feeling lucky?

Agree! Do it yourself. May be inconvenient to some but well worth not to have to worry about damage. Invest in some ramps at a minimum.

Maybe you will get lucky like me. My dealership has a separate building for oil changes and light maintenance. It has the pit you drive over just like the quick oil change places. No lifting! But since you are in Mogadishu - I'm not sure what you'll find at your dealership. Ha!

With a post lift with arms they should be able to take the lift pads off and just have the large pins. These pins will go in the 4 holes under the car where its designed to take said load if lifted all 4 at once. Thats the most ideal way to do a post type lift.

Here is where to lift with the four point or the pinch weld.

But the best way is in the 3rd picture.

I've always chosen to do my own minor maintenance as long as I'm capable of doing it safely and economically. This is my first Camaro so I'm still on the learn-as-I-go path, but are GM dealerships and mechanics REALLY unable to safely lift a car that they manufacture tens of thousands of? I'm not doubting anyone on this forum that have had their cars damaged by some kid waxing cars and doing oil changes for the summer but it worries me to think that I can't trust a certified mechanic that's spent countless hours under these cars.

Where did you get your Race Ramps? Those are the ones I am thinking of getting. I like the idea of two piece

It's a bit over stretched, you have some people that just don't trust anybody no matter what and go around saying to do everything yourself or they'd do the work better than anybody. Now there is truth to nobody is going to care more about your car than you will. However, if you have a good dealership, talk with the service manager and stress that this car is very important to you and you don't want an inexperienced tech to do it and you would prefer a drive on lift, and say you'd also like to watch, then you should be golden. They should comply with all of the above without any back and forth. Just drive it into the service drive, let them put plastic on the seat and floor and then follow it to the service center and watch them. It would definitely help if you knew how to do the oil change on these cars so you could see if they're doing something wrong. Lifting up by a 4 point lift isn't too bad, most techs should know how to do that. Drive on is preferable though as sometimes techs just get rolling and don't like to go slow and pay attention. But techs also know that whatever they screw up is going to cost them big time, so because of that they tend to take care even if you don't think they are.

OP, there's diagrams out there but they only instruct to lift the car by the pinch welds and unless you bring the ZL1 addons jack pads or similar, then they're not going to be able to lift by the pinch welds. Either request a drive on lift, or make sure they know the lift points that are safe with a 4 point lift.

Find a dealer that specializes in Corvettes and Camaros. There is one dealer local here that knows what they are doing. The other 5 have no flippin clue. When I dropped mine off I asked to talk to the guy doing my oil change before hand.

I asked him if he knew how to pick up a Camaro and he slide under the car and pointed at the lift points. I felt ok about it after that.

I love the ZL1 but the underside and unibody is no different than a rental company SS or LT. Any dealer can lift a Camaro adequately unless the car wash boy puts it on a lift for his inaugural procedure.
