Different gearing and lighter weight basically are the difference here....however the new motors should increase both HP and MPG...

Took the words right outta my mouth. Even with new engines Ford still cannot compete with GM in the HP department. Ford still has no answer for the LSX engine.

Ford went "rice" and reduced weight. Nothing wrong with that at all but please dont go tooting your own horn so soon. Still I gotta hand it to them, the new Mustang is a great alternative for those who just simply dont share our passion for the GM/Camaro brand. Even Chrysler finally put down over 300hp on the V6 Chally and almost 300hp in the new Charger. Regardless of how you feel about one or the other, things are looking good in the American automobile world.

Now if only we would drill for our own oil, we wouldn't be bitching about "1mpg" more!!!!

For a V8, I'd agree Jason but you have to think of a lot of people who buy the V6. They want it for looks and economy.

i say they do with the 5.0. now, as far as engines go only the LS3 in stock form has the advantage, torque and power under the curve BUT the 5.0 takes better to mods more than the ls3 from what ive seen. and like you said being lighter, better gearing options, smaller wheels plays a part in it too. id still rather have an lsx engine anyway just cause its a hell of a lot cheaper to extensively mod these pushrod motors than they are the DOHC
