After ordering the parts back on the first week of April I was finally able to get my SS in to the shop on Tuesday.

Currently I have the CAI cold air intake below is what is being installed by Street Custom and Paint in Mooresville. The goal is ~450 RWHP.

Pfadt Stage 2 suspension package, plus end-links:

1.25"drop springs

Sport sway bars

Quiet adjustable end-links

Comp custom grind blower cam package with street tune:

Custom ground comp 3 bolt blower cam

Comp hardened push rods

Comp valve spring kit

Comp Rocker trunion upgrade

GM 3 bolt cam gear

GM chain damper

B&B Headers and full exhaust:

1 7/8" Long tube Stainless headers w/3" collector

3" Stainless high flow cat pipes

3" Stainless sport or classic cat-back exhaust

Elite engineering catch can

Upgrade to “strong” MAF

Custom Tune

RS Wheels painted flat black

Painted flat black stripes

New cam going in:

New Pfadt springs:

Headers:

New Billy Boat exhaust

Stripes going on today. Crappy paint rendering attached, they will continue on the trunk lid and over the spoiler. Car is black stripes will be flat black.

Hope to pick up by the end of the week!

Stripes and wheels are awesome! You did a pretty nice job with the cam etc too! Tires wont be far behind!

Out of tire black.

Pics do not do the stripes and wheels justice.

Should be pushing ~450 to the rear wheels. The new stance, about 1.5 inches lower is very aggressive. Steering seems to also be greatly improved, have not have much time to push it yet! :(

I can't recommend Kyle, NC-V, Jimmy and the entire staff at http://www.streetcustomandpaint.com/ enough. If you are in NC you need to look them up.

So what is a build thread without a little drama? Well here is mine.

Picked the car up on June 29th and everything was perfect. Hardest part was not burning the tires off trying to push them just a little longer until tax free weekend. Well they lasted but no tires

Driving to work on August 1st when pulling on the interstate the car stumbles, like it was going to stall, then took off but now a terrifying clicking sound from the engine. The not even novice mechanic in me fears the worse.

So I take the car home and send a quick e-mail to Kyle, NC-V, who did the CAM, headers exhaust work. He suspects a misfire and has me check the plugs wires etc. Could be a valve spring but new Comp springs were installed with the CAM so that is unlikely. At this time there was no check engine light on.

Here is the noise:

I check the plugs etc. and no improvement, but the check engine light is now on so time to hit the on star button. Connect and they run diagnostics, come right back and say that I need to be transferred to level 2 support, this can’t be good! Fist question Mr. Anderson do you have any power adders to your car, intake exhaust ect., well $hit. Hope they don't hang up on me! Yes I do. Well we are showing too much air you need to check your intake and make sure there are not leaks. OK check intake and everything is tight.

Another e-mail to Kyle and he suggest to check the header bolts. OK no problem, of course both of us are going out of town for the next week. So now on vacation thinking of nothing but header bolts, oh wait there is beer!

More mystery to follow!

OK back from vacation and borrow a torque wrench to check the bolts. Should be straight forward right. Engine cover off check. See the blots should looks easy enough, drive side done not too bad! On to the passenger side. OK so who in the blue hell decided to put all these wires and hoses over here?!?! OK work around them not too bad, wait are there 2 blots BEHIND the dip stick.

OK time for a beer and try to just move the dip stick out of the way without removing it completely. OK everything has been retourqed and still ticking.

One more e-mail to Kyle, I am sure he loved me by now. He now wonders if the exhaust gasket could have blown out, and offers to come to my house to check it out. Now I live 1 hour from the shop and he is coming after work to check everything out because it must be something simple right…

So after 3 hours of spark plugs, wires, headers, valve springs, fuses, data logging, it appears to only be firing on 4 cylinders. Kyle thinks it must be a vacuum leak, so we check for one, nothing. Only thing not checked was the intake gasket. Kyle dose some research and it seems that a there have been a few issues with the #8 intake port, hey that is the one giving us problems! He will come back down Saturday to check the gasket; if that is not the problem he will replace the intake.

So one more trip to my house everything seems ok with the manifold, so he replaces with a new one (with injectors, Map sensor, hoses and gaskets) no change. So now it’s time to get it to the shop for to check compression and do a leak down test to make sure the valves are seating correctly. Now he is suspecting part failure.

Up next a call to AAA and a pink tow truck!
