I think in the situation that GM is in, they will keep pushing the v-6 & SS models. Maybe in the future they will get back lucrative & kick out a z-28. Hell, I'm surprised that they still came out with the zr-1.

Motor Trend had seen this picture in advance (its probably from a few years back!), and came up with their rendering.
The new Bumblebee Camaro carries this look, as the Z28 was to be ready for later this year (and coincide with Transformers 2).
If things improve at GM, this car may yet still see the light of day.

Oh, and I want that book!
But let's be clear, bumblebee here is still based around the Camaro CONCEPT. So picture this fascia and hood on the production version, and you have Z28.

If the Z/28 has moved this far ahead I would imagine we will see a very limited production in the next few years.

love the grill, thought i would hate this design but wow, it has really grown on me.
We know there is a life size model somewhere at GM as it was supposedly reported, or was it just the design like this one, apart from all the discussion on the design, what about the engine?! i wonder if they are stuffing the LS7, LS9 or whatever. 550 horse sounds like music to my ears

I don't know exactly why Chevy has been beating around the bush and hasn't come out and said anything about THIS Z28. I remember looking through this book and seeing these photos and thinking, "did someone really get away with publishing these things?" Naturally I whipped out my phone and snapped these pics a little over a month ago and had to get home and post them up here:
http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/show...0&postcount=34
The people in the bookstore didn't look happy about that at the time, but it was for a good cause.

The only thing I can come up with is that Chevy is being quiet about this for several reasons. One being they don't want to the competition to know that it is just an SS with a certain LSX dropped in...its obviously more than that. Anyone can take any LSX and drop it in....a few have already.
The other reason may be that the money truly isn't there for further development. Because of this, they don't want people banging on the doors saying to build it now! Those people will be disappointed if they really can not build it for good reasons, and that would just look bad on Chevrolet.

Scott Settlemire was quoted in a book, regarding the camaro concept, saying, "We had started work on a Camaro a couple of times, unofficially, but got caught each time." Lets hope they keep that up.

Anyway, im glad you guys enjoyed the pics, and I hope they did show more insight that the Z28 does (allegedly) exist.

The reason they are keeping it hush hush right now can be summed up in one word SALES, plain and simple.

If they were to announce today that the Z/28 was coming out fall of next year anyone looking to buy an SS today would probably wait.

The GM think tank knows that when it does come out a lot of people who already bought the SS will trade it in on the Z/28, effectivly selling 2 cars instead of one.

The gentlemen have a job to do and thats not making us happy, it's selling cars to get the company out of a big whole.

Sorry if this was answered already, but how do we know this is a recent picture? Couldn't this picture be from last year when the Z/28 was still being considered?

Why would Chevrolet wait on announcing the Z28 return? I think they are shooting themselves in the foot by doing that. Reason; because everyone, (ok not everyone), but a good majority of people are going out and buying the SS models right now. So, by the time the Z28 does come out, (if it does at all), people will be locked into their finances with their current Camaro and would have to wait on a purchase of the Z28, (if it is being produced). That could hurt GM in my opinion.
BUT,....on the plus side for GM. People that buy their SS models now will WANT the Z28, (if it does make production), and will trade in their current SS Camaros, thus making GM LOTS of money and boosting Camaro production. Just my opinion and something to think about.
really ???
