Nitrous filled tires?

Hi All, I went to put some air in my tires this morning and I wento to the garage bay and asked the guy on duty if he could fill my tires. Before I could get out of the car he tells me he cannot do it. I said "why?" He said you have nitrous filled tires. I have the 19in tire upgrade on my camaro.

The big question is how do I get it filled? Is there a portable version of nitrous gas that I can keep in the garage?? How does anyone else handle this?

Thanks

Its nitrogen.. your dealership shouold have it. Most tire places do. Not sure if you can have it in your garage..

Nitrogen. It does not expand & contract like plain air and is denser so leaks less. Nitrous is an entirely different compound. You can add reg air any time if needed.

hmmm.. i can get mine filled anytime from work, but i guess you would need a tire shop, or a wal-mart, costco (where i get mine) or any other places that have tire shops

*giggles*

yes, nitrogen somehow escapes the laws of physics.

Not nitrous, by the way, that's highly combustible.

I think he meant nitrogen.
IMO, nitrogen filled tires is a waste of time and money. Considering regular air is about 2/3 nitrogen anyway, what's the point? Gimmick to make cash, that's what it is........

sorry about that

Sorry about using the wrong name of the gas in the tire. The guy at the station said he didn't want to add air because he said it contains water and it would knock the tire balance off.

When heat is applied to any gas, it's going to expand.

Nitrogen molecules are larger than other molecules and therefor won't leak out as fast as other gasses, pure nitrogen will also not contain any moisture which will expand and contract causing large fluctuations in hot versus cold tire pressure. Nitrogen is also a noble or inert gas which will not support combustion or life. (don't try breathing it, you will die)
Liquid nitrogen is also extremely cold (-320F) and makes ice cream freeze faster and smoother.

And you can freeze stuff with it and it will shatter

You should see if you can get them filled with helium.. It improves your quarter mile time considerably from what I hear

EXACTLY!!!!

I had a set of tires from Costco on my pickup that were filled with nitrogen. When I needed a little air, that's exactly what went in there! A little air from the compressor in my garage. Works fine.

air is primarily made up of nitrogen (78.09%) and oxygen (20.95%). The remaining 1% is made up of argon (0.93%), carbon dioxide (0.03%) and other trace gases (0.003%).

Ok I was wrong, there's actually MORE nitrogen in plain old air than 2/3
so I guess the big molecules will plug the hole
