To answer several questions about Fuel Trims

Fuel Trims are a result of Mass air flow measuring error.

Goes like this (Short version) Mass Air Meter (MAF) and Intake Air Temp Sensor (IAT) in MAF Measure air flow in Grams Per second per cylinder, computer calculates how much fuel is to be sprayed in cylinder to achieve 14.7:1 A/F, then the Oxygen Sensors (O2) Read Air fuel Ratio (A/F) in the exhaust pipe before the cat, then Computer Trims Fuel + or - % to correct A/F error.

So if Maf is incorrect in measuring actual air flow O2 pick up the slack and shows up as Fuel Trims.

Moving, Rotating, chaning the size or shape of the pipes before or after the sensor will affect readings, this is why these manufactuerers have to work so hard to find the sweet spot for each system.

at least you can use error percentage to tune your MAF, which I think is key to the start of a great tune.

To me... cold air inductions seems to be the best performer with the easiest installation. However, the new era offers the best performance after a tune IMHO because it is able to actually maintain its 48 IAT. All depends on how much effort you want to put into a cold air intake.

thanks to all involved in comparison test,...just wish that there was a way you could have tested a gmpp set up on the ls3,...just my guess is that the gmpp would not have yeilded too good of results due to the fact that it appears it's just a type of k&n filter with the same box with a nicer looking lid,....am i correct?...anyone,

Did you have a Snifter in the tail pipe? And if you did why not let us know the readings.

And to do that you need a wide band in the tail pipe or in the o2 senser.

Where are you going with all of this?? You keep making comments but have not really said anything..... are you saying that the car is not running right with all of these CAI's?

Yes, If you looked at the New Era dyno on Sunday it was smoking bad and that tells me the AFR was not right, and after start it dyed and you restarted the car that is the computer and the scaling is off.

Please enlighten us as to why you are asking these questions. I think we are confused as to where you are headed with this. Is there a flaw in the test?

Seriously. I'm curious.

I'd like to know this as well. Does anybody know if the box is replaced by the GMPP kit? does anybody have ANY experience at all with the GMPP? I'd like to get a CAI and build it into the original car purchase which leaves GMPP my ONLY option

The car was NOT smoking that was steam, it was 48 degrees and raining and I stalled the car when I let the clutch out too fast.

And if you looked at the fuel trims it was only 7% being ADDED.

You have not provided one Lick of useful information to either of these threads.
