second annual NEC5 car show/autocross - 8/14

Hi ALL,
Nick, our infamous clipboard holder, has been prodding me to get something going for our second annual NEC5 Car show/Autocross.

I would like to throw out the anchor and nail down the location and date.

I am assuming we want to do this at Devens airfield again on 8/14, as they have ample parking for all of us.

We can have the same setup as last year - autocrossing for anyone that is interested, car show for all of us, with a small fee to cover trophies for racing and car show along with lunch.

I am willing to donate any extra proceeds gathered for lunch and drinks for all...

trophies: Here is what I am thinking... Provided we have enough cars for these classes.

Car show:
1,2,3 for stock
1,2,3 for Mild Modified
1,2,3 for Super Modified

AutoX: (Will add a 3rd place once we have 10 cars per class)
1,2 for F stock
1,2 for G stock
1,2 for FSP (Mild Modified)
1,2 for Super Modified

Specialty trophies (AutoX):
Fastest time
Most Cones
Most Improved (Novice)

As we have more cars this year, if we are going to have a bigger turnout, we can expand the trophies for each of the classes, or add additional classes as well.

anyone with ideas, please feel free to post them in this thread or PM me or Molloni.

thanks,
-Dan

OK, listen up! Here are the rally points and times for this weekend!

First up, if you are coming for the autocross, I am planning to get all of us to the gate for the event by 7:30am. Yea, it's early, but it'll be worth it!

If you are coming for just the car show / meet & greet, you don't have to get there so early. Obviously, you are more than welcome to roll with us racers, and I hope you do. But if you don't, try to get there by 10am. If you want to use the rally points and meet up to roll in for the meet & greet, you'll have to work that out with each other.

Also, those of you coming up from RI and southern MA, if you guys want to figure out your own rally point, that's up to you. If I get the chance, I'll try to scope something out for you.

Rally Point 1, 6:45am - Mobile On The Run, Rt 3 / I495
(This is my favorite rally point). For my NH and North and West of Boston friends, this is pretty much on our way.
If you are coming on I495 (the red and blue paths) you are going to take the exit for Route 3 North. As you get off of 495 and head north on Rt3, the very first exit after you get onto Rt3 will be Exit 31, Rt110 Lowell / Chelmsford. Stay to the right as you come down the ramp and plan to take a right. Immediately to the right of the exit ramp is a Mobil on the Run. We can meet in the parking lot. It's easy off and easy back on.
If you are coming up Rt3 North (the green path) when get off on Exit 31 and follow the directions above.
If you are coming down Rt3 South (the purple path) you are going to take Exit 31 for Rt110 Lowell / Chelmsford. Stay to the left as you come down the ramp, and take a left onto Rt110. You'll pass under I495 and the Mobile On The Run will be on the right.

Rally Point 2, 7:15am - Harvard Bowling Lanes, Rt 110 / 111, Ayer, MA
This is a great point. It's right off of Rt2.
If you are coming up I495 north, you'll take the Rt2 West exit.
I'm not sure what the best way if you are coming from RI. There are various ways to get up this way. You can come up 146 and pick up I90W to I290N to I190N to Rt2E.
Take exit 38B Rt110E / Rt111N for Ayer / Groton.
The bowling alley at 204 Ayer Road, is about 1/4mile from the exit (closer to the Rt2W exit).
The airfield is only about 10minutes from this spot, so that should put us there just in time.

Ft Devens, Moore Airfield
So if you are not going to meet us at either of the rally points, or if you are going to the event later than us early birds, this is the way to get to the airfield.

ChevyTech asked if we'll have our own section for the event, and the answer is YES. So when you get there, ask them where the Camaro5 guys are and pull in with the rest of us.

Follow the directions to Rally Point 2. This puts you on a good path to the air field...right from Mapquest.
1. Start out going EAST on AYER RD/MA-110/MA-111 toward GEBO LN. Continue to follow MA-110 E/MA-111 N. 1.9 mi
2. Enter next roundabout and take 3rd exit onto MA-111 N/MA-2A W. 1.1 mi
3. Turn RIGHT onto PARK ST/MA-111/MA-2A. 0.6 mi
4. Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto FITCHBURG RD/MA-2A. 0.8 mi
5. 138 FITCHBURG RD is on the LEFT.

Hi Everyone,

(Nick - we need to track the classes people will be in to figure out the trophy counts for the classes)

For those autocrossing (or in the car show) I am thinking we break into a few classes
Whether your Camaro is stock, Mild Modified, or Super Modified, and potentially have trophies for each class. # of trophies depend on # of entries in each specific class.

Stock (will be F Stock for auto X)
Stock Means STOCK. No MODS, other than tires/wheels.

Mild mods (no supercharger or turbo) will be FSP (F Street Prepared for Auto X).
This would be CAI, exhaust, suspension upgrades, gear changes, etc.
For the car show, this would be LED lights, spoilers, engine dress up, etc.

Supercharged or turbo Is in SM (Street Mod)
Super Mod - well... pretty much anything you want.

Most people will run in the N (Novice) Class. That will put everyone together with a handicap for the FSP and SM cars to make them equal.

Once we have a count of how many/what classes people are going to compete in, we can figure out how many trophies we will have for each class.

Ok... so for those what are attending, should we have our club vote, or do we want to have an independent panel of judges (like last year)?

I am leaning towards NEC5 members voting for the cars in the car show.

Do we want to add any classes for non-2010 Camaro's?

Dan, I updated my original post to let people know to include their class information and if they are doing just the show or the autocross as well. I filled in everyone but Roger and 2010 because I don't know your cars yet - you can either edit your original post or just post again.

As for the lines between classes, we may need to make them a bit clearer. For instance, what class would a car with headers and throttle body fall in? And how many mods need to be done to go from FSP to SM? Same with the show - do my custom stripes put me in FSP, but stock rally ones are stock? And wasn't there something last year where us V6'ers should have actually been in a different class from the V8's?

As for judging, I don't mind if the NEC5 gang does it, but maybe make it such that one class doesn't vote in their class? On the other hand, the independent judging is a tad more unbiased.

I'd like a nec5 pic. Have all the members that show vote and how ever gets the most....well. The rest should be random juges. Just thinking.

I'm in for the show - no racing (I wouldn't want to beat Molloni's slow speed from last year )

Here's hoping I can bring the Camaro this year (I like my Pity Cone and all but, I am not missing the Hybrid Malibu )
