No, thats not the only difference. Someone added the Z/28 aero kit to this one (looks good though). For the Z/28, there were only 1801 made in total (and only made 2 years). The LS7 is hand built. Yea, much more expensive brakes, but they will live longer. The recaros of course (but of course other models have them too, to include the 1LE). More potential from the engine. Thats just a starting point... Ive been working on a FAQ to stick on the camaro 5th generation page due to all the misinformation and incomplete information.

SS to 1LE to Z28 and the ZL1 the Z28 is actually the king if the hill, the ZL1 has alot of unique parts also. i was really thinking that a 1LE is not too far off a Z28.

Many have been found out of spec. Chevy blamed the dropped valve issue on a bad machine at a vendor as the cause that was supposedly fixed back in 2011 (this is what chevy officially reported as the cause; although their TSB basically tries to avoid looking into the heads at all costs unless the customer pays for the labor, and then, only IF they find a problem while in warranty will the heads be replaced with more stock heads--my dealer basically refused to look at the heads, even when told I would pay the labor, which they bumped up significantly--tried to get 1600 just to check!). There have been heads made after they supposedly found and fixed the cause that were found to be out of spec; well out of spec in fact in some cases (beyond max tolerance when brand new and unused). The safe way to go is to do the heads. Its 2 grand for the piece of mind that you won't have to worry about it. Chevy reported the percentage of actual failures to be VERY low (I want to say they claimed like 2%, but don't remember if thats the number or not tbh...just remember them claiming it was very low percentage); but that percentage was really just applying to the C6 Z06s built in 2011 or before. To put that number into context, there were 1801 Z/28s built, 27996 C6 Z06's built, and 2552 C6 427s built (when this percentage was stated though, there would have only been at most, 27000 Z06s built at that point). So, thats ~32349 LS7s, and at a failure rate of 2%, thats less than 650 cars that had the issue, per Chevy. The actual number is likely higher, because chevy would only know of those brought to the dealerships for repair (or otherwise reported as a failure to them). There are reports of LS7s lasting with no issues, and others crash and burn at very very low mileage, so it seems to be a crapshoot. There are entirely too many instances of people reporting out of spec valves on brand spanking new heads though; so, again, probably safer to do the heads. Again, 2 grand = piece of mind = well fkn worth it imo. Last edited by HoodCheck; 11-09-2019 at 06:36 PM. |
