Pete, any drawbacks to going with an 18" wheel?

i was think of going 19" but the tire selection for the 18's is much better and the wheels are even lighter! i just figured, you choose the 19's over the 18's for a reason.

I run 19's on the street and 18's on the autocross track. My tire sizes are in my signature.

There are a couple clearance issues with the 18's. The rear lower control arms will need to be 'clearanced' to the inside lip of the wheel. (I run 18X12.5" wide rear). There isn't a lot of clearance. they will damage the wheel or other parts if driving on the road. I dedicated the 18's to track events only.

The 19's have enough clearance to allow the suspension travel you need for the street.

I ordered a set of Forgeline's S03P's in 20x10.5 and they are beautiful. Gonna have to run a shorter sidewall or give more clearance, but hoping there are no issues.

Only problem is... I'm in Afghanistan. Gonna have to wait until I'm home on R&R. Gonna get Pedderized and get the shoes fitted in August. I'll post pics in about 7 months.

i can understand how a 12.5 rear tire might have issues... considering its 3.5" wider than stock. so is it safe to assume an 18x11 rear with a near 27" tall tire will work OK?

It would be great to see some pics of both set-ups if possible!

I would hope he sells enough camels to buy a Justice Package.

Yes I do make that assumption and it is sometimes incorrect. As my post is made sincerely, I have found the responses to be equally sincere, especially with their candor when I am wrong.

Thanks for the gratitude Pete. I love what I do, and it's an honor to do it.

The camel business has been good this year, so I'm thinking a Justice Package is just what my dromedary needs.

Can't wait to start building and get back out to the track.

Pic's at the end of this post show the clearance issue with an 18" wheel.. see how close the
LCA (Lower Control Arm) is to the rim? the marks in the 2nd picture on the LCA are from
the wheel biting into the arm.

I worked with John at CCW for 4 months to come up with the correct offset for running 18's..
but there just isn't enough clearance for them on the street, even with the correct offset/backspacing,
you still have to modify the LCA to make 18's fit and not rub.. I replaced the Lower Control Arm with Spohn
arms and we modified them to have a 1/2" cut in them where the wheel needed clearance.
They are killer for the autocross track, though. Makes the car like a skateboard with the short tires. With an 18" tire
on the street, you will have issues bottoming out on speed bumps and driveway crests.

Here are the 19X10's I run on the street..

My car at an autocross on the street tires.

Here are the 18's mounted on the car for the autocross track...

Notice how LOW it sits, just with the short diameter tire. The car only has 1" drop in suspension. (Tire diameter measures 25.6" tall)

Here's a pic at one of the SCCA Autocross events near the end of the season.

thanks for sharing those photos, your car looks incredible...

i was told that an 18x11 rear wheel fits fine...
will the 1.5" reduction in width help with clearance in your opinion?

i guess i could just go 19's, but was told thge tire selection for 18's is better, and the 18' wheels are even lighter... that was the sell for me.

this will be a street car, not a race car.
