Price check? First time ever buying a car...

I was wondering if I could ask my new home (you guys) if this price sounds about right. I'm turning twenty in a month but I've never bought a car before so I could use a little help.

Specs + Price

2010 Camaro V6 6MT + RS Package + Spare Tire/ Final price after taxes = $27,050. I have 2Gs for credit off of my fathers GM card they are honoring.

You could also go here and build it yourself and see if the price is right.

http://www.chevrolet.com/vehicles/2010/camaro/build.do

Also is that price after the $2,000 is taken off or before?

1LT I should have added that. Are they trying to charge me twice for the destination charge?

They are probably just charging you over MSRP

Hmm just checked the numbers again and it seems okay. I think I was getting thrown off by the destination charge.

The MSRP I'm being charged is $26,650 before taxes and my discount.

QUESTION

I read on the GM card website that there is apparently a $1000 cap on Camaros for rewards? Yet my friend just bought one and received 2K in discount and the manger at this dealership looked up my fathers points and okay-ed my two Gs. Are they just not aware of this alleged cap? Regardless I'm keeping my mouth shut when I'm in there about it lol.

The rewards go by your vin number. When a dealer searches "Discounts by VIN" it will tell them what discounts that car is eligible for and the maximum allowed reward points. The vin's are randomly chosen and the limits actually vary greatly, there was one guy on here whose car was chosen to have a $3,500 cap on the GM reward points. So it is possible that that you will be allowed to use the $2,000 but then again it is possible that the salesman just checked your fathers card and didn't cross check it against the vin number of the car.

Also what is your tax rate? I'm getting the $26,680 MSRP but in order for me to get the $29,050 (before the GM reward points) I'm coming up with a 10% tax rate. Is that right?

Here where I live its 8.125% sales tax.

And I'm placing a factory order as they said it wont cost any additional money, unless they are able to find me one. In which case you are correct they did not check any VIN numbers. I was told by the Manager that I will get my full 2Gs so they have to honor that correct?

I know this is probably a stupid question but im trying to see how the GM reward card works. I am thinking about getting a GM Card and want to know if it would make any since to get one now seeing that my car should be here soon (if I don't cancel because it has been dam near 3 months) and I dont know how the reward system works.

I could just wait for the 2011 and use the card then..

You won't build up enough points in such a short amount of time to make it worth while. You only get 3% of the amount spent on the car back as reward points. In order to get $1,000 reward points you need to spend almost $35,000 before your car gets here. Taking into consideration the max spending limit of $5,000 it will take you a minimum of 8 months to get that much (7 months of spending and it takes one month for the points on the 7th month to update). It takes the average person years to gain that much.
