4th gen brakes, 16" rims?
After looking at crazy prices for 18+ drag tires and wheel prices and spending the day at the track. I am pretty sure a 4th gen brake swap and cheaper, smaller, better hooking wheel tire combo is the way to go! So here is my question. With a 4th gen rear brake swap, what needs to be done to get a 16" rim on.... I am thinking a 4th gen 16" rim will fit with a 28" drag slick, from what I have found is the bolt pattern is pretty much the same and should work. Would the lower control arm get in the way? Does anyone know of anyone with a 16" setup I can talk to? Thanks

With 5th gen V6 brakes you can run one of the 16" wheels. Either Bogarts, Welds, or CCW's will work. You can run 17's with the Brembos. The only slick available in a 17" size is the Hoosier bias ply.

Your talking big money again, I am on a tight budget thats why I asked about 4th gen brakes and 4th gen or some other cheap wheel. I can get 2 16x8s dirt cheap and a 28x10 tire ALLOT cheaper then 18" DR's. I would consider 17's too I am sure they can be found cheap as well. But I would rather have the 16" and a 275 M&H drag radial for $223 each. It would be cheaper in the long run when it comes time to replacing tires every few years also.

I think I figured it out guys, stock 17x8 GTO wheels have the same bolt pattern and range from 40-48mm back space! They should fit, over the brembo's I dont know but with a v6 brake swap they should. I am going to price out a few brake setups, I found factory GTO wheels for $50 each!

You can clear 16" wheels with V6 brakes, but you will then have control arm issues. Be prepared to do some fabrication to the arms.

Maybe the GTO 17s will fit over the brembos, I need to get my hands on a wheel.

Im not sure on the offset but the pattern is 5x120. The wheels are not 4th gen, I don't believe those will work. They are Bogarts. If you want to run a 17" wheel you have very limited choices. It's just the three mentioned above. There maybe one more that I am forgetting. As of today, no one has found any other 17" wheel that will clear the Brembos. And it's not from a lack of looking or trying. The search has been beaten like a dead horse. They've been searching for almost two years and nothing. Sorry |

I am going to give the factory GTO 17" wheel a shot! ( same offset and bolt pattern) It may fit over the brembo's... the other issue I found is the control arm, but with a little cutting and welding that will not be a problem. I just need to get my hands on a rim.
