I really like that, I might order one for mounting a bike rack. Since I don't live in Wisconsin where would I get it installed if I ordered one?

Find a local hitch shop and have them order and install it.

I didn't think they would install the product unless you bought it through them, guess it's worth a shot.

Why do you say that?

OK NO WAY. I have no doubt that the engine and tranny could do it but that trailer is way to much for the IRS to handle with 600lbs bike. Definitely not two bikes. I think it would be way to much tongue weight. I would say if they make a hitch for the camaro I would rent a small single bike trailer and go solo. The mustang has a solid rear axle so which is more suited to towing. I would say no more than 1000lbs.

guess a lot of these folks are not familiar with the street car drags..tons of people tow with their performance cars..they tow their extra tires, fuels parts etc...its all part of the rules for the contest...because there are no support vehicles allowed for the hwy portions of the trip...

Welcome to the internet. Thats how forums work. You get discussions where somewhere inside of 200 posts, someone answers a question . . . and so no one else can re-answer the question, and instead they just keep telling you to search and don't be lazy. The real issue is that forums are a VERY poor device for information storage. Sure they are alright for discussions, but once information has been established, it really needs to be pulled out of the forum and stuck in something more wiki-like for it to really be useful.

good thing this site already has a wiki :bangdesk:

but then again, what section would you put, "motorcyle towing?" I suppose the towing capacity is already listed on the wiki. I'm too lazy to look (even in this thread), but I think it was 1000lbs.

I still think you need a separate system. Eventually you'd end up with more stickys per page than posts. Forums are just bad products to use a libraries. You really need a library separate from a forum. Then the question becomes, who is going to sift through the forums extracting nuggets of into and stashing it all into a library of some sort? There are lots of interesting ways that could be assisted, but in the end, the answer is: the same people that cash the checks from all the advertising on this site :-)

Forums are effective for storing that type of data; however, the search needs to be decent or better. vBulletin's search is awful, at best. Try searching on a phpBB forum; it's clumsy, unpleasant, and unintuitive, but at least it's effective.

Sometimes it helps to search a forum using Google. Using the operator site:camaro5.com in Google will search only inside of Camaro5.com, but if you're searching for something general like towing capacity you'll get this entire thread... :(

The manufacturers know no one will use the product to tow but instead will get the biggest truck they possibly can, so they have no incentive to produce meaningful tow ratings. The only thing that concerns me then is the liability issue. Sure it physically can, but if it legally "can't", then liability could come back to bite you hard.

Fortunately, I was looking at the new Equinox to replace our Taurus wagon in a few years (shame there are so few good wagons out there, much better than an SUV or CUV) and V6 models can be equipped with a tow package from the factory rated to 5,200 lbs. That's more than enough to tow a tent-trailer or a couple wave-runners. (Clue I'm not a typical overkilling American - I'd prefer to camp in at most a small tent trailer rather than an RV.)
We used an F250 to tow my Camaro home .

Malibu Boats from Merced, CA

This is the 2nd or 3rd generation of them making Corvette Boats.... Each time they team up with GM. 1st time they had Callaway 383 Motors i believe... this time.... they have the LS3 (and LS7 for the Z06) 400hp and 505hp

http://www.malibuboats.com/boats/corvette

Think the total price for a Z06 and Z06 Dressed Trailer (including corvette rims) came to about $119,000... Standard was about 90k?

Quite Nice Boats... all of the Malibus that is (even my 1994)

So just to breathe a little life into this thread because it's almost spring...

k0jdd's bike rack is not a common design. Most people who get a receiver bike rack, get one so they can get the kind of bike rack that holds the bike by the wheels, not the frame. This kind of rack is almost a necessity these days if you're moving mountain bikes. The most common receiver rack is the Thule T2. It goes straight out of the receiver, it doesn't curve up. Here's a picture of it in the stowed position. When the bike holders fold down, they are higher up than the receiver but stick out about 2 feed or so.

So my point is that I'm still looking for a receiver that comes out of the piece of plastic below the rear bumper. It's the only way I'll get by without scraping. Plus I still suspect that around my neck of the woods, the receiver alone would still scrape from time to time even without the rack attached. It might have the same vertical clearance as the exhaust, but it's much further back. 1 inch of height for 5 inches of distance. Thats not steep at all. If that's all it takes, I'd scrap every time I pull out of a parking lot. The sidewalk to street transition at my post office's driveway is probably 2-3 times as steep as that. And yes many cars to scrape all the time.

I haven't climbed under my car to take a real close look yet, but I plan to soon. Is this something I can/should get done custom? How would I go about finding a place to custom fab something like this? I assume the easiest way would be to buy one of the two existing hitches and modify them. But that might not be the case, again I really have to climb under and take a look around.
