Camaro got all grased up this AM

Commuting to work this mornig and WTF, all of the sudden the lane I am in is soaking wet. Cars started slowing down fast, and I could not change lanes. Then the smell hit me, DIESEL FUEL, and I had to drive in it for about a quarter mile. It seems that an empty tractor blew a tire and ruptured his tank, leaving a trail of fuel behind. No damge to the Camaro, but I washed her twice as soon as I got to my shop. Just another day in the life of a commuting Camaro......

You gotta love the smell of diesel in the morning! I would hate to get that all over my car!

Not only will diesel fuel NOT ignite with a cigarette, but gasoline will not either. Saw it on MythBusters, but STILL didn't believe, so I tried it myself. Sure enough, it doesn't matter how you do it: You can aerate the fuel, you can work with the hottest blazing cherry you can stoke, you can do what you want to do... a cigarette will not ignite gasoline or diesel.

Seen it in movies? Yes, I know... we've also seen giant robots from outer space battle for the universe, and depend on one teenager for their real salvation.

However... the smell of diesel fuel... good luck with that! Diesel is one very unpleasant liquid to deal with.

At $4+ bucks a gallon...that driver was having a bad day! Glad there was no damage to your car.

... an 18- wheeler can carry hundreds of gallons of fuel, so not only is the loss of that fuel likely to run into the high hundreds of $$$, but, when a truck that has spilled fuel is identified, the EPA can (and often does) impose fines in the neighborhood of $25,000 per offense PLUS cleanup costs, which can even make that fine seem like peanuts by comparison...

If you got slimed, I seriously consider a good wash job, maybe even throw in some Simple Green de-greaser for underneath, wheels and wheel wells, etc. Its a stinky petroleum product and diesel takes a lot longer to evaporate than gasoline.

Just so happens I keep Simple Green on hand, it took two shots to get the wheels and wheel wells deslimmed. I used a more gentle Meguires car wash on the paint......

No kidding!

You'd better get that top cleaned just to be on the safe side...

ss409cid, now that your ride is washed up......certainly you got to know that where ever you had the fuel on your car.....most likely all your wax is GONE, so now you get to do another WAX and Detail job.....whether or not you needed it or not!
