How soon is too soon to start researching your purchase?

Recently, there was a spirited thread in which the op stated he was a couple of years away from buying a new Camaro, and was in the process of talking to dealers. I've always been a believer in doing my homework weeks, maybe a few months in advance when it comes to car buying, i.e. Consumer Reports, Edmunds, etc. I think it leads to a more satisfying purchase. However, I feel it's best to wait until you've got money in the bank before approaching a dealer. Maybe you're someone whose research begins at the dealership. When should you research/visit the dealer/buy? For me, it was July-Oct/Oct. 3/Oct. 6.

Aldo, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. And there is no such thing as being too early. the sooner and the more you know about the car you are looking at the better off you are. and BTW, there is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's and wive's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

never too soon to research and learn . . . but talking with salesmen about specifics like prices and deals gets frustrating since it tempts you to buy when you really aren't ready, and it sort of wastes everyone's time . . . I'm in the middle of that situation right now, not really ready to buy until the fall probably, but a little too obsessed in the mean time
