Drag racing

So I’m going to street legal drag’s tomorrow night at the local track. I have a pretty much stock 2011 Camaro SS manual with Hurst short throw. Any tips on maximizing this cars potential? Just going with my street tires. Traction control on or off? Stabilitrack on or off? Any help appreciated!

Nice car! First time out? Being a manual car, you as a driver will have a huge effect on the results. Try to remember to have fun and not get frustrated.

Turn the nannies off.
Stay out of the water box if they let you.
Slight hazing of the tires to clean them off would help.

Fully expect the car to react differently on the strip vs street. It's not prepped for street tires. If the car starts to wheel hop, lift out of it. Not worth breaking parts.

As for launching, a user here by the name of acammer has some really good videos on technique.

EDIT: Some other users have already mentioned acammer. Worth the time to watch!

This right here is the best advice you can get!! And by all means, as stated, if you get ANY wheel hop, let off!! Have fun!!

+1 wheel hop is the enemy and become disastrous. If drag racing is something you want to continue . Might want to look at reinforcing your rear cradle and rear end suspension . One of the biggest things are cradle bushing . toe rods, trailing arms . Will help keep the rear planted when doing hard launches ..

Like everyone said if you feel wheel hop let off.

Your 60ft will determine your time and mph . Take your time when staging . Run a checklist before hitting the water box -Traction control off etc ..

Idk if you know but at least at my track they require you to wear long sleeve shirt and pants ,and of course a helmet. Make sure your helmet is up to date aswell .

Most of all !! Have fun .. don’t worry about he guy next to you . You’re racing yourself to post the best time ..

I by no means are a pro at this lol this is my 2nd season ,just wanted to share what has helped me

I was faster with the T/C on rather than off. Auto car so maybe it likes that over just spinning. It’s a lot of fun and I’m planning on adding another 400-ish wheel to make it that much more entertaining.

I wouldn't even attempt to race that car until it's fully tuned, i just purchased a 2011 Camaro SS manual and it's sitting in a high performance shop getting a run thru, new sparkplugs valve cleaning breaks everything without an actual rebuild is being replaced.

Why not?? The first time I took my "untuned" Camaro SS to the track with just a CAI on it and axle back exhaust I ran a 13.10, second run a 13.0!! Quicker than what people were saying it would go! I had a guy, then his girlfriend call me out with their Challenger V8 stick car and O wiped them both!! They got mad, but it was fun!! But to your benefit as suggested above, pay attention to YOUR car and YOUR run, not the guy next to you. Run your run. Practice makes perfect as they say. Good luck and send it!!

Well last night was the night! 13.6 @ 107 mph was best run. So much fun. I just had street tires on so I did get some spin at the line. I found the quickest launch was low rpm and quick clutch. My reaction time is slightly faster than a turtle so I’ve got some work to do! I appreciate all the information in this forum!
