can you explain this to me?
Ok, this is trivial, I know, but I am inherently insecure, so I want to ask your opinion...
So, I bought my Camaro in late January and yesterday was the first day I've actually driven it because the weather is finally warm and sunny. I just LOVE my Camaro. Today, I drove my Camaro to work again. On my drive home from work, there was a line of about 5 cars on the 2 lane state highway I drive on. They were going pretty slowly (50ish and the speed limit is 55). I usually drive 60 on this road and have been commuting on it for 20 years and not one ticket. So, I passed them one at a time. Not flying in and out like an ijit, but carefully, using my directinals to indicate my intent, and taking my time as it is safe to do so. The last car to pass was a Nissan Altima. As I pulled out to pass (not wildly and flooring it, but at a reasonable pace), the driver of the Nissan puts his arm out the window and flips me off as I go by looking just irate at me. I did not "acknowledge" his flip and I just continued on and set the cruise to 60 and kept on going. Now, I have no idea why this guy would flip me off like this. What did I do that should piss him off like this? I honestly was NOT driving like a maniac, but in a very civilized manner. I realize this is not a profound topic, but I'm counting on you, my Camaro colleagues, to help me explain this curious behavior. |

don't even worry about it. if you weren't driving crazy, you weren't in the wrong. there is a reason it's legal to pass.

Maybe his insecurities bubbled over when you passed him with some American muscle. Or, some people are just jackasses.

Only thing I can think of is was this a funeral procession? Other than that it was just the Altima guy driving slow and he gave you a universal hello. I assume it wasnt a funeral procession since there where no police escorting it which would you have prolly mentioned.

Sometimes there is no reasonable explanation for what goes through a Jackass' mind...
I have learned to laugh at stuff like that...don't let an idiot having a bad day take seconds off of your life by transferring his stress to you. But one possibility is...there are some people who will purposefully hold up the flow of traffic....just because they have nothing better to do than try to irratate others...being he was in the front..that could have been the case, and since you passed him and he couldn't hold you up you foiled his little plan and pissed him off... In any case, not worth sweating IMO...I would have smiled and waved....now in my younger days...well it might have been a bad day for him...lol

I can only assume that the "Nissan Altima driver" was having a bad day. He could have an issue with being passed or just not like American Muscle Cars.

I honestly think some people just don't know how to drive. I've been given the bird a few times to. None of those times was i doing anything out of the ordinary or illegal.
In fact sometimes it's the others who are in the wrong. For example on fellow who was going 60 in a 70 on the left lane. I had my car on cruise at 75 and came up behind him. There was no one else on the road so I just slowed down hoping he would move over. He eventually did, but not without making a scene and giving me the finger. It's just the nature of some people to get mad when they don't realize they are wrong. |

It was definitely NOT a funeral. It was 5 cars, no police escort, and, most obvious, no hurse.
I drive my daily driver (a Toyota Highlander) on that same road, the same speed, every day. I've never been flipped off in my Highlander. The Nissan was the front car. The only thing I can think of is he is po'd that I'm driving a V8 car. I can see some people getting mad when some folks (not Camaro5 folks) drive sports cars like ijits and resent that, but I am VERY careful not to be inconsiderate of other drivers. I think it's Camaro "race"ism. |
