Hey guys! Joining the party:)

So I'm about to purchase a 79 Berlinetta! It's going to be my drag car and I'm as giggly as a school girl I'm dropping a LT1 vette engine in it, converting it 2 carbed, and all the goodies! I'll post pics and such and keep you updated. BTW, I'm prob gona be asking some questions, never took on this much before, but I'm excited!

ok, so head gasket and valve cover gaskets changed and engine cleaned up, inside and out. about to do bottom end gaskets, and then onto the new intake and carb.
Question!:
i don't know much about distributors, but i do know i need some sort of HEI. i heard rumors that i had to get one w/ a melonized gear? i'm not completely sure what that is, i think it just means it has a special coating. in any event, i need help picking a distributor. what should i look for in a relatively high performance distributor? and particular brands i should get? this is a category that i'm pretty naive in, so any help is appreciated

MSD sells a full range of HEI distributors at various prices that will fit just about any application. They even have a few full ignition kits with HEI included. Check them out.

hey thanx! my question now is the tach. this is a drag race application so obviously i need a tach. but can i run a tach off a distributor w/o a tach drive? i'm sorry, this is a really naive question. i thought i heard something about electric tachs that don't require the drive, they just have a charge counter or something. could i run one of those on non computer car?
