They used to be, but I believe sometime in model year 2013 Chevrolet launched their own version (the one that's made for the ZL1 and 1LE). You can see it on cars with the "5.1 ratio" badge on the shifter.

I used the stock shift knob when I had mine installed.
After 4 years of use, I love the change from stock.(night & day)
I do have to change the bushing. There is a lot of play in it now.

Depends on the year! My 2012 SS has a factory Hurst short throw
