What is the issue with the unavailability of GM's air intake for the LT1?

I tried ordering my 22 LT1 with GM's optional air intake, but it was unavailable. I have inquired with the same ordering dealership for three months, and it cannot be ordered through the parts department either. Was the sale suspended, and the part no longer offered? I know it can be ordered through Cold Air Induction's website (I think an oiled filter version though, and not the same dry filter media offered in GM's version), but it does not include the recalibration that GM offered. Does anyone know what is the issue, and if it will become available again?

I thought I had read that for either '21 or '22, it wasn't going to be available because of EPA standards changes. I have a '20 and have been told by my dealership that it's available. So.... maybe?

I have a 2021, bought one online, installed it myself and my dealer (WA State) installed the tune...

I tried ordering it with the car also and it was removed from the order. Salesman says they are on back order. If you look at the build web page it says it is now approved in all 50 states.

I had to pull mine off my ‘22 2SS/1LE. I took delivery of the car a month ago. I have called GM and many dealers etc. the part is on National Hold and NOT FOR SALE. I contacted CAI. Other than not being 50 State Legal and oil filter. Their kit is IDENTICAL and puts up same numbers. They told me the tube is designed a bit different and that is why NO TUNE is needed.

I do prefer the dry media filter over the oiled, as they usually do not foul the MAF, along with other benefits. I wonder why GM'S version of the Cold Air Inductions brand would have a different tube design that would require recalibration of the PCM. Perhaps to comply with CARB emissions. I wonder what happened, as it was already CARB approved though. I hope GM will offer it again.

The Cold Air Inductions part is not the "Same" part either. The GM part has emissions adsorbtion material in the MAF tube and requires a calibration. The CAI part works fine without a calibration and doesn't have the emissions material. They are very similar, but definitely not the same.

I have no idea why they are not selling it. Was going to order a new car as soon as the chip shortage mess clears so I hope they figure it out!

To the Op, just order one from Cold Air Inductions unless you live in an emissions state. I installed one on my 2016 2SS without any issues and it ran great with improved throttle response and intake sound. My SS was still under warranty when I installed it and asked the local dealer Service Manager if there would be any problems using it for warranty work and he said no just as long as the car wasn’t tuned.

I am contemplating ordering the one from CAI. However, I am not a fan of oiled filters. Also, I fear that without GM's recalibration, it may run rich, as I have read several reporting here in the Forums that after installing a Rotofab CAI, they are running rich without a tune.

They are tuned to run on the rich side from the factory. A standard Rotofab does not require a tune and will not cause your Camaro to run “rich”, whatever that even means.

The Cold Air Inductions CAI is a quality unit and I would recommend it to anyone wanting an aftermarket CAI for their Camaro.
