Trade Z/28 for 2018 ZL1?

Thinking about switching over to a new ZL1. Have any of you guys done that? I’m very hesitant do make the swap however. I think the Z/28 has more character and more of a unique factor going on. The advantage to the ZL1 is obviously the power/bells and whistles. I have a feeling most people don’t even know or care what a ZL1 is. I love both cars. I’m curious to hear some opinions on this.

I would not. The Zl1 will not hold the value like the Z28.

Character, where the Z/28 will always maintain dominance.

The ZL1 and Z 1LE are awesome Camaros, but replicating what the Z/28 offers is not reality. If the creature comforts and newest is what is desired, they are the vehicles to be in.

For those who had the Z/28 in the beginning, and those coming in, at this point for less than the a new ZL1, the Z/28 can surpass the LT4 power output while staying naturally aspirated. The platform the Z/28 is, and what it becomes with some more power... as a car to be driven, is perfect. This statement does not account for daily driving and subjective comfort.

I made the switch last year from a nice low milage 13 ZL1 to a nice low milage 14 Z/28 knowing the ZL1/1LE was here. Just the statement the Z/28 makes is enough for me then add in the fact of the low run numbers with the amazing sound the LS7 makes.... raw fun car. Im stuck on this one for now

I think you'll find that nobody will know the difference except for yourself and other enthusiasts.

The ZL1 is more comfortable and makes for a better DD, while the Z/28 is the rawest driving experience that can be bought from an american brand.

You just have to consider and balance your priorities, especially if you have the budget to have more than one car (Z/28 for fun, something else for utility and comfort).

I drove a ZL1 1LE to see about switching and I felt each had something the other did not, the 1LE is stupid fast and Z offering better overall "fun factor". If I wanted the fastest best handling Camaro for the track the 1LE hands down. For a track and street car the Z/28 gets the nod for me for all around fun. As far as looks go - both are great, but I like the Z a bit better.

If both new and priced "as new", so $75k for Z and 72K for 1LE - the 1LE would be in my garage. But for the $53k I paid for my Z new - in spite of the stupid fast acceleration of the 1LE, I would have to say the Z is/was a great buy.

Either way you will be smiling ear to ear when you are driving them.

The simple answer is it depends what you value in a car and how you intend to use it.

If you want a car that's rare/unique/collectible, Z/28.
If you want a car that's beauty will only increase with age, Z/28.
If you want a car that will hold value or possibly increase, Z/28.

If you want the newest coolest thing out now, ZL1.
If you want to run the fastest time at the track, ZL1.
If you want fully loaded with creature comforts, ZL1.

My personal opinion:

If you a hardcore purist Camaro enthusiast who wants to a piece of Camaro history in your garage and/or want the car that will turn heads 10+ years from now, Z/28.

If you daily drive, plan to take long trips, and/or really value amentities you will get more bang for your buck from the the ZL1.

Zl1 will bury a Z28 and it damn well should. The ride is eons above the Z28 it is way faster and the size is much smaller. The LT4 is a freight train and the feel of the car does not require a leap of faith. They did all they could with the 5th gen chassis in the Z28 but the blank slate approach to the Zl1 17 and beyond is an evolution. The 1LE is even more ridiculous. I drove my 17 20 miles thus far and own a 12 Zl1. I've driven the 15 Z28 and it's an amazing car too. But bumpy as hell and needs glass road to enjoy whereas that doesn't matter to Zl1 (I'm shocked at the ride of the 17)

There not the same car IMO, To me the Z/28 is a wider car with more room inside, and its down 150 HP and the same or more Tq, but it has a lot more appeal, It stands out, yes the new ZL1 is nice and does have all the amenities you can want.

For ride the Zl1 is nice with its magnetic ride, but if you can keep the Z/28 and in a year get the ZL1.

now the ZL1 1LE to me is a lot closer to the Z/28, the ride is the same if not a more firm to our Z/28, we have both at the shop, and i like both the same, what makes me drive the ZL1 1le more is the power it has but we are working to add 150HP to the 2014 Z/28.

By what means?
To the op: A lot of people like the newest best and that is great for the economy as I know that beast of a ZL1 1LE sure had me looking, but I really believe our 2014/15 Z/28's will be a collector car in the future. Add to that people ask me often what it is.
