Amplifier is a 4x100 watt us acoustics Barbara Ann

What components are you running in the front door and tweeter location

What speakers did you go with in the back deck

Just looking for options

Budget $400 or less for the front
300 or less in the back

I went with focal 165 AS front and rear, requires a adapter for the rear deck though, about $380 a set , nice clarity at high levels amped ... had a hard time choosing between these and a set of Hertz .

Focal's are great. I've had them in other cars. Very bright. I like JL Audio a lot, though.

I was trying to do a cost effective upgrade - here’s what I went with:

Head unit - Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX
Front speakers - Alpine S-S65C
Amp - Rockford Fosgate R2-500X4
Powered Sub - Rockford Fosgate P300-8P
Rear speakers - To be determined.

Total package including various harnesses and brackets - I went with the PAC dash kit - was around $1500, using discounts and open box specials.

The front speakers were a pain. I initially bought some JBL components and hated them, then Rockford Fosgate R1675-S, which I dealt with for awhile but wasn’t satisfied with the lack of mid bass and bright tweeters, and now I’m satisfied with the Alpines. The powered sub really made a difference, more than anything else, other than the headunit. I’m still debating if it’s worth replacing the rears, but if I do, I’ll just go with the matching Alpine 6x9.

Here’s what I’ve learned about sounds in the 5th Gen, especially compared to other vehicles I’ve owned - they are just terrible for decent sound, especially if you have a sunroof car. Standing still, with the engine off, my current system sound more than decent. Once moving down the road, all the squeaks, wind and engine noise drown out the sounds. I slapped a cheap set of Pioneer speakers in my HHR with the same headunit and sub and it sounds better than my Camaro unfortunately when underway. I say that as a warning if you plan on throwing a ton of audio money on these cars.

Slippery slope. I like JL audio. You should be able to do their C3 components up front and C2 6x9s in the rear with your budget.
