Question Some Questions for 1LE Owners

Hey Guys,
I just registered with Camaro5, but have been reading and lurking for a couple years. I've wanted a 5th gen camaro for a long time, and have finally decided to pull the trigger with the recent addition of the navigation screen and the 1LE package. I currently drive an ’08 Silverado with the SS suspension package, and a ’99 Firebird T/A WS6.
I had a few questions regarding the 1LE package that I was hoping some of you may be able to answer for me:
  • I’ve read a few threads about transmission shifting issues in the close ratio Tremec box that comes with the 1LE. How bad is this issue? Is it an easy fix under warranty?
  • The 1LE package has track oriented suspension. I will only be using my 1LE on the track about 1% of the time, with the rest being weekend back country road driving, the odd commute to work on nice days, and some road trip highway driving. How is this suspension to live with as a daily driver type of car? Does it bounce and beat the driver up? I want a firm suspension with great handling, but I’m a bit afraid that it will be bone-jarring with that type of racing edge that I seem to read about everywhere.
  • What is top gear like on the close ratio Tremec? Can you still pull low RPMs with it on the highway. Say, 1800 rpm at 65mph or something like that?
  • Have any of you tried to remove the flat black vinyl on the hood. I’ve removed vinyl graphics before, but I’m just worried that the clear coat will not be as nice as the rest of the car after this stuff comes off.
  • The dual mode exhaust on the 1LE, is this the exact same exhaust that you can get on the SS? I think it is, but I just want to make sure as I know it’s an option on both. Are you satisfied with this exhaust in terms of engine note? Can you pull the fuse and leave the butterflies open all the time like on the Vette with no issues?
Anyway, thanks in advance for any responses. This is a great forum, and I can’t wait to put my order in for my car.
Cheers!

1. I haven't had any issues with the transmission yet. This is the first car I've had with a manual transmission (aside from driving my Uncle's Corvette and my dad's) but I haven't noticed anything off about the gear-changing yet. I did read some threads about it, but I haven't experienced it yet

2. The suspension isn't nearly as bad as I would have expected. It's a stiff ride, but easily capable of being a daily driver. Just gotta watch out for potholes and manhole covers, cuz you'll definitely feel them.

3. 6th gear is really like an overdrive gear....I've cruised at 75 mph down the Parkway at under 2000 rpm.

4. I have not tried removing the vinyl from the hood and I don't plan on it.

Forgot the last question lol:

5. The Dual-Mode Exhaust is the same one available for the SS and the same one stock on the ZL1/Corvette. It's awesome. The engine note sounds amazing and I couldn't be happier. No need for aftermarket exhaust parts for a while. I haven't tried the fuse-pull, but I've heard of people doing it without a problem

Hope this helps

I love it, could not be happier. Amazing engine note. Haven't tried pulling the fuse yet but I have seen a few people on the forum have, hopefully they'll chime in too.

While waiting for mine to be delivered I went to the dealer and test drove a ss with the npp exhaust and I left there impressed and with the big smile.

Transmission feels great and also not heard of any issues[*]The 1LE package has track oriented suspension. I will only be using my 1LE on the track about 1% of the time, with the rest being weekend back country road driving, the odd commute to work on nice days, and some road trip highway driving. Both the ride as a daily driver and handling are amazing. Anyone that says the suspension beats up the driver or isn't friendly as a DD is beyond retarded and has no right to own one. I had similar concerns and I'm beyond thrilled with the level of comfort![*]What is top gear like on the close ratio Tremec? Can you still pull low RPMs with it on the highway. Say, 1800 rpm at 65mph or something like that?
You're right on track with RPMs. Super chill in 6th gear for MPG....drop to 5th and it still has nuts to pass![*]Have any of you tried to remove the flat black vinyl on the hood. I’ve removed vinyl graphics before, but I’m just worried that the clear coat will not be as nice as the rest of the car after this stuff comes off.
Not me....looks a TON better in person; at least on the white. It's staying for a while on my car![*]The dual mode exhaust on the 1LE, is this the exact same exhaust that you can get on the SS? I think it is, but I just want to make sure as I know it’s an option on both. Are you satisfied with this exhaust in terms of engine note? Can you pull the fuse and leave the butterflies open all the time like on the Vette with no issues?
The NPP exhaust is an option for like $900 and is incredible. Completely livable for DD and normal driving and sounds beast when @ WOT! Well worth the $. Same as what comes stock on the ZL1.[/LIST]Anyway, thanks in advance for any responses. This is a great forum, and I can’t wait to put my order in for my car.
Cheers!
Best of luck

Gotta Love this Car

Looks like snow tonight so most likely put away for the winter but I've put on 800 miles since Nov.3rd.
Tranny absolutely no issuses, shifts very smooth, most of the 2nd gear grind has been in the mm10 on the SS's i think.
The Ride, the ride is alot smoother than I expected, Just traded in a 2011 avalanche LTZ w/air ride for a 12 silverado & 13 SS 1LE. Would not hesitate to jump in this car & cruise to Myrtle Beach for a long weekend. I wouldn't even consider taking the truck.
RPM's In sixth gear doing anything less than 65 this thing is just loping along.
The Hood I won't touch it,everybody Loves the hood that sees it
The NPP exhaust. Worth every penny. Sounds great when your'e into the throttle & slip into stealth mode when you want to. have not pulled the fuse in the trunk yet.(maybe in the spring)

I love the 1LE but dont like the black hood. Would also like to know if anyone has pulked the vinyl. I wish Chevy would gives a credit if we dont want it and not install it.

You now have to post pics, was there a lot of residual left on the hood?

Holy crap! Left the house this morning to buy a printer and came home with a new 2SS 1LE! Dealer had one the buyer backed out of. I still can't believe it is in my garage.
