I'm going to test drive a V6 auto Camaro today!

I won't be buying, however, I want to get a feel for the car. What should I expect? What's the best way to say to the car salesman while being polite that I just want to test drive and won't be buying today.

You answered your own question in your post. Just what you said here, say to him.

Just don't be surprised if they won't let you drive. Dealerships are not public service organizations .

Depends on the dealer and the salesman. When the 2016 first came out i went in and told them that and even admitted not even being from the area so when the time comes I won't even be buying from them, and the salesman still let me drive the only SS that wasn't in the showroom.

Simply be honest. Are you going merely for a "joy ride"? Or are you considering a Camaro in the next few months (perhaps even several)?

Just tell them that you are shopping around but not in a position to make a purchase yet. Trying to get a feel for certain cars on the market so once you're ready you'll know exactly what you want.

This... This happened to me with my 2016... They just kept lowering the price and tacking on extra things like my smoked tail lights.

That's what happened to me. I was at the dealership getting the oil changed in my Buick and thought I would take a look at the camaros while I was there. As soon as I heard what it sounded like I was a gonner.

Same for me, I was getting an oil change and there was one freaking 6th Gen in the showroom...."I just want to take a look at it".....next thing you knew I was test driving it and then running numbers....

Well came back and said they don't allow test drives for Camaros and Corvettes. How dumb is that? I went to the Ford dealership and had no problem test driving a Mustang. Chevy really has to get there crap together. Not hating on the car but the Chevy experience. Doesn't matter if I was buying today or not.

Yep! Going for a test drive in a Camaro is more risky then just going to "look" at puppys

That's not up to Chevy, that's up to the individual dealer I would think. Plenty of people on here have test drove them.
