2017 Camaro pricing

After looking at the 2017's available,I've got price shock. High optioned 2SS over 55k and one top shelf 2SS vert just shy of 60k. Wow!!! Keeping mine anyway but, that's a whole bunch of $!!

Happens all the time.

Come out with a great basic sports car.

Come out with some expensive special editions.

Slowly migrate the SE options down to the basic car.

Come out with a new version with all the goodies that costs more.

Do that a few times, slowly raising the price each time until the once great basic car is out of the hands of the masses.

The Japanese are great at this, think Celica through Supra, 240Z through 300ZX, Mazda RX series.

Chevy is doing the same thing with the C8 Corvette, they wont even make the C7 version anymore so your $58,000 bargain supercar is gone.

Camaro will be the same way, who really wants a 4 or 6 cyl muscle car anyway. Most will not be able to afford the cool versions and the cheap versions won't sell. They'll blame it on everything but their own stupidity.

People that want a mid level SS can still get one for less but I think a lot of us would love to have mag ride and/or the 6piston brembo's but if you want those options be prepared to pay. I wonder what the 1le might be with top options. Time will tell if people will pay that kind of $ for what is still a Camaro.

Well, yeah, I agree it's a lot of money, no question. The thing is that the old days (just a few years ago) of the cheap, big engine/little car no frills muscle car is long gone.

By moving the Camaro to the Alpha chassis, they have created a true sports car. Adding the LT1 engine to it with 455 HP/450 ft lbs makes it a serious sports car. When you add things like the mag ride, and the 6 piston brakes, that technology ain't cheap, it's supercar stuff.

Now for me, using the build and price on the web site, I can get a 2SS with mag ride and brakes for around $46K. That's really all I would want to add to the base car, and honestly, I don't need either of those. The Alpha platform has already gotten rave reviews for it's handling and road feel. It's when you start checking the boxes for all the little add ons, navigation, stripes, etc. That "nickel and dime" stuff adds up quickly. So the question is, how much of that stuff do you really need or even want in a performance machine?

All that said, I would still challenge anyone to go out and find a better value, performance per dollar. Yes, you could spend $55-$60K on a Camaro, but you don't have to.

These prices used to get the lower end corvette a cpl model years back. I sure don't think the new Camaro could out run them. Camaro wouldn't out handle a vette. Cheapest 2SS around me is 46-47k. Sticker on 2015's I looked at were 41k loaded. I know that's not tit for tat but people aren't buying them here. I've seen one on the road. All the dealers have them all over the lot. The 16's have been out since Nov and 17's are just coming out. I got my '15 on the 20% deal but it was 39k list. The other one wasn't on a deal and it was 41k list. That's seems a lot of difference to a prospective buyer. Hope the '17 sell better.

I was going to sell my 2012 SS and buy a 2016 SS. Optioned out, i priced it up to $51k before taxes & license fee's... so instead of selling my 2012 for $25k and getting stuck in the hole with another $30k, i decided to just do E85 and pulley drop.

It's not that I can't afford one, it's just that I don't want to pay $51k for yet another Camaro that will be slower than the next one in 5-7 years and repeat. I've also noticed people stopped using the word 'nice car' when talking about the 6th gen. the 6th Gen lost it's wow affect with the high price and body style changes and such. I would rather get a vette for a few $$ extra

When I bought my 2010 2ss a few months ago, I was actually looking for a used C6 Z06 or a C7. The ones around our area had around 30-50K miles and just didn't thrill me with the configurations available. Found my 2SS/RS with ultra low miles and something in my head said, you've always wanted one so go for it. So far I'm very happy with my decision. I paid 25K and it only had 12K miles on it. If you look you can find the right car. I just can't see paying 50K plus for one unless it's special and the special ones cost far more.

I priced out a new SS because I was thinking about upgrading next year, however, when the price for a 1SS (I hate leather) with no tech upgrades and in a manual came out to $44k I was a little shocked, I figured it would be more around the $36-37k range. But even the V6 1LT manual I built was coming out to $35k. If I want another V6 I'll just switch to a new 370z for $30k.

So much for the Camaro being the affordable muscle car it was initially marketed as in 2008-09

According to the Chevrolet web site, starting price for the 1SS is $37K. Now dealers order cars for the lot, and usually add options people typically want. Try going to the build and price and then search inventory and it gives you a list of comparable cars at dealerships near you.

When the '16 first came up on the build list, you could still build and price the 15 also. The comparison I did put the '16 1ss at about a $2K price increase, and the 2ss at about a $3K price increase, option for option. Keep in mind that many of the things you had to pay for in '15 are standard on the '16.

Now, practicality aside. If you want a weekend fun sports car. Would you spend 50-60k on a brand new Camaro or a 14-15 Corvette?

You can get a 14-15 corvette with very low miles for the prices I saw for these Camaros. That was the point of this thread. I am a big fan of the Camaro come back and bought my 15 in Nov '15 because I wanted one since the '10's were released. I like the mechanical improvements in the '16's but fully loaded with the improvements is just so expensive. The ones I saw did not have every possible option. Yes you can spend over 100k on a vette but a base vette isn't so much more and "sorry" my understanding is a vette will out perform a Camaro. I've never had a vette but know ppl who have. Just don't want GM to out price these cars to the point they ether drop the v8 or change to something less. I don't think the average buyer can afford it. Chevy already is focused on trucks, suv's and crossovers. I don't want to loose our car again.

I prefer the 5th gen look but, I stress a little when every week I pass the closest Chevy dealer to my house. The same Camaros that have been out front are still there. I've looked to see if they are in fact the same ones. Mostly, they are. The dealer where I bought my car is a very big dealership and they aren't selling to well. Idk, look, size, price? Not even the lower priced are doing well. I think dealers ordered high end hoping people would jump on the new ones. It doesn't look like that here. I've said that I've only seen one '16 on the street. Hope the '17 does better.
