Anything wrong going with 2" headers?

Just curious - I know I don't need them now but who knows what the future holds. If anyone who has 2" headers could chime in and tell me if they have felt any loss of torque, clearance issues, etc. it would be appreciated.

if it were me power loss or not!! if theres even the slimest of chance you may ever a some cubes to your motor then id say yea go ahead and get em... i learned the hard way years ago on my 02 ss i went through 3 sets of headers and if ida bought the big boys to begin with ida saved around $2500..

ARH 2 inch did the best in Ted Jenetty header test. Not by a landslide but they did make the most power. Very little more money than the 1 7/8 and the 1 3/4. Worth it in my opinion. Easy install especially on a lift. I had mine coated as well to keep the new look in the engine compartment. Good Luck

overkill unless you plan on getting a cam and a blower later on. 1 7/8 LTs are plenty sufficient for 600-650rwhp easy

As long as the price difference between the 1 7/8 and 2in is nothing, go for the bigger ones. At least for the ARH's, the 2in showed a near identical powerband as the 1 7/8 and had a few more peak HP and Tq. The choice is yours. Either set will do you well.

I have the 2" Stainless Works LT's and I'm completely happy with them.

I too, wondered if going with the larger diameter was going to make me lose some power. I even asked Stainless about it. They didn't have an answer saying they hadn't had the opportunity to test out the different sizes on the same car. They said the difference would likely be minimal. Well, as you can see with the tests, the gains are minimal.

I love my long tubes. At first, I thought I lost some of the low end. Then, after breaking in the engine (as anyone out there will say), it got better and better.

The best part about the 2" headers? You won' have to get anything different once you decide to finally supercharge later down the road!!! yes, I plan to...but haven't a clue when that would happen....

People here sight Ted's test to say 2" are the best, but he actually recommended the 1 7/8" headers for most people. 1 7/8 headers are better down low, and match 2" headers for just about all of the power band for less $. Unless you're planning on building a track car and spend all your time at peak hp, you'll be perfectly fine getting the 1 7/8 headers. Really, you can't go wrong with either size, but if you don't plan on racing the car a lot and spending most of your time around 5000 rpm, why spend more money on the 2" headers?

Well the way I see it, if one day you decide to Supercharge it and you have 1 7/8" headers, NOW you are forking out more money when you could have just got the 2" headers that are like...$70 more...if that. So I'm going with the 2" headers.
Either way, if you're going to be spending almost 2 grand, what's another $70 which may save you thousands in the long run?

You dont need 2" headers just because your going with a supercharger. Lets not pretend that 1 7/8s is an economy car exhaust manifold. Most of you going with 2" will never really need it.

NicKey Performance tested on the Wegner NASCAR certified engine dyno with both the LS3 and LS7. We use 2" on most all LS7 builds and 2" on most LS3 / LSA FI builds and 1 7/8ths on L99/LS3 N/A builds up to 600hp.

Also, your exhaust system after the header collector can have an impact on the overall power results as well.
