Conversely, if its a fairly simple re-skin of something else (or only relatively a small change from the previous generation), or has a couple basic powertrains the development can be reduced. Cars are expensive to bring to market. They are the most complicated mass produced things in existence. To produce them you need a fairly large team of specialists working for years, a small fleet of (expensive) prototypes to work the bugs out with, and a bunch of complex tooling/dies to purchase to actually build the thing. It adds up.

I don’t think I have ever seen one on the road.. If I did I must have thought it was something else.

Its a great idea. But they brought back on top of a FWD car. Just not going to cut it.

Look at it from the perspective of Escala being an S-Class / 7-Series / LS500 competitor and Continental being an Acura RLX competitor. The first group is low, but fairly consistent volume / demand. The second is losing market share rapidly to luxury SUV and crossover models.

I’m sure it will lap the Ring just fine. Will it have a good interior and an entertainment system that people don’t loathe?

I think the CT4 is supposed to be a 'tweener' like the old CTS. Smaller than the current CTS but bigger than the ATS. The CT2 (if the go with even number names) would likely be a touch smaller than the ATS.

CT5 is supposed to straddle the compact-midsize segment. CT4 is looking to be something like a 2-series/CLA competitor.
