I don't know about the current statistics, but if I recall correctly, the median age of a Corvette buyer in 1970 was 27 and that 93 percent of Corvette buyers in 1970 were male. In fact, during the original muscle car era most purchasers of muscle cars were relatively young and male. The numbers may be different today.

Pictures with plate holder painted.

With a dealer plate on delivery day: (yes they color matched the dealer plate - a THR touch!!)

With the state plate on it.

There are nice no-drill alternatives out there. My car was dealer located and came with the front plate attached...so we painted the plate holder. I like it.

Go with the 60th anniversary 2013 Vette vert 427 if you can find another $25K. Slightly less power at 505 but a true collector with smooth refined power, handling and great gas mileage (no gas guzzler tax either lol). Drive it for a few years and then trade in/sell for a 2015 Z28!

Coming from the guy with some money down on a 2013 ZL1 vert lol.....(although if I had the extra cash, it would be hard not to get the 427 vette).

Hey, I turnned 55 in January, and I'm getting a ZL1. I can't picture myself in a 'Vette like all the old gizers around here. Just kidding, all you young Corvette owners.

Go for the ZL1. Who knows how long they will be made for.

I could live with that I guess. I'm relocating to Nevada soon and a front plate is required if the manufacturer offers a bracket.

If I had no budget limit I would get the Audi R8 GT.

I went down to Ford last weekend and looked at a GT500 in person, man that engine is bad ass. Quad overhead cams, massive cylinder heads, 4 valves per cylinder, forged pistions, rods, crank, cast aluminum oil pan. That's what I would expect in a modern muscle car.

The ZL1 engine in the pictures looks kind of puny and dated. Sure its making HP but I can't help think I'm getting kind of out dated tech in the engine category with the ZL1.

Sadly I had to cross the GT500 off my list because hey Ford where's the rest of the freaking car? This is where the ZL1 shines, the engine aside its literally stuffed bumper to bumper with modern muscle car high tech advancements they really did a hell of a nice job on this car. It needs to shed a few pounds.

So I think I'm going to go for a ZL1, I just may have to about the pushrod motor until I get over it.
Sorry I don't really get the point of this thread. You love the GT500 motor, hate the ZL1 motor ,but you hate ford. So your buying a ZL1.

Great! Good for you.

Humm, don't know how legit this thread is but whatever.

OHC engines are about as old as pushrod motors. Just sayn'.

I'm just not a Vette fan and for the $25k I don't see that you get much more than the ZL1.

Make a hybrid! Get the ZL1 and drop the GT500 engine in it!

I've had a little bit of everything over the years. My wife needs a car too, so we usually have a couple of decent rides. I sold my '98 VR-4 to RK Motors on 11/11/11 & we've been sharing a 2012 NISSAN Altima 3.5SR coupe w/ an automatic. My gal will probably try her hand with the Camaro & she hates manual transmissions. I'm kind of tired of shifting with a manual, foot operated clutch myself. The ZL1's 6 speed automatic should be pretty sweet from all that I've read; faster too! Not a big fan of the gas guzzler tax, but WTF? Around town in bumper to bumper traffic & on hills, the auto will make the drive a bit more pleasant. If I need to select a gear, I have that option. I don't feel that I'm giving up much of anything with the Hydra-Matic. The Lord willing, I'll see 63 in April.

I was tempted to get a GT-R, but that pesky approach angle BS pretty much killed that wishful thinking. I sure do hope that the guys at GM are mistaken about the ZL1's 9° approach angle as that's only 0.5° better than the GT-R's & it's a b*tch to drive on real world roads, IMHO. I've had Corvettes, but I prefer the configuration of the ZL1. I kind of like the idea of a hybrid... drop a FORD Supersnake engine in a ZL1... lolz!

Get the ZL1 for its outstanding suspension, killer LOOKS & just because! Come April, I'll probably be going home in a VOLT... lolz!
