Were did I say that... None of these cars run anywhere near the top of the fast list on avg. That goes for all of them... Stangs, camaros, gtos, most of the guys that bicker about this crap online probably never even race there cars! Any one of them can be fast, and driving is more important then the car when there this close in performance.

Having a 4th gen for 6yrs and now having a L99 I think that I have more experience than most and I would say they are very, very close. It would come down to options on the 4th gen. I would say a low option prime running condition 4th gen would be faster than a L99 by maybe a tenth of a second but a heavily options 4th gen would loose to a L99 by a tenth of a second. My 4th gen was just a little over 3400lbs without driver and had every and I do mean every bolt on. It had 3.73 gears, full rear suspension, Level 5 built 4L60E with a PI Vigilante converter, LT headers and full exhaust, Underdrive pulleys, electric water pump, better plugs and wires, lid and ram air mod, DR's and a tune. Intake manifold and valve covers had never been off the car. It ran consistant low 12's with a best of 12.2. My track here is 1000ft above sea level so I never had near 0 DA, not even close. The car would have ran in the 11's easy if I could have run it on a sea level track with mine shaft air. From what I have seen thats right in line with what a full bolt on L99 will do. You have to realize that a stock LS1 F-body makes about 300RWHP on average. Add that to a slim 3400lb car and you can see why it will give a stock 3900lb L99 car fits. The fact is GM just screwed us auto owners by putting a truck/SUV motor under our hoods rather than a true Corvette LS3.

ive had both and my opinion is a m6 LS1 would have the edge over a L99 the better race would be LS3 vs M6 LS1. generally speaking they are all close

As mentioned
most (average) LS1 Fbody trap in the 104 - 106 mph range (very similar to the L99 A6). My stock LS1 Z28s usually trapped right around 105/106 mph in pretty good air. It would take ATCO winter conditions (negative 2000 ft DA) to get a stock LS1 Fbody or L99 A6 to trap 110 mph. |

A stock L99 A6 almost always out 60' a stock LS3 M6. Its on the top end that the LS3 M6 has the advantage. And I'm not sure who told you L99 A6's need to be "bolt on like crazy." Very basic mods (intake, headers, and a conservative tune) will give you a mid 12s @ 111 mph car. The fastest L99 A6 with just intake, headers, and tune ran 12.2s @ 113 mph. But I'll admit, to get in the 11s it will take more serious mods. But that's the same for the LS3 M6. The LS3 M6s need just as many bolt on mods (or more) to run the same times. |

Just watched pass time last night!
2001 Z28... low options I assume, he had crank windows All stock expect cold air and hand held tuner, auto trans 13.2 something at 105 This is pretty much what they run on avg like I said before, take the hand held tune and intake off that car and it would have been slower.

Not stock for stock but my mods are CAI and cat back with cut outs open. He was more heavily moded than me but nothing past bolt ons. He was manual, I am auto.
I spun off the line, he did too but not as much. Hot night, high humidity and later in the evening so track prep was suffering. 1/8 mile in the foothills of SC. Last edited by Devilfish; 08-15-2012 at 10:37 AM. |

I would have to say driver's race as both have proved the same 1/4 times.

And I would have to say that I was there, owned the car, and it did what i'm saying it did . Not too worried with what you found on drag times. Also, I was referring to the LS3 and my driving ability ... not the auto LS1. That may not have been clear, but don't chop up what I said in a quote and take it out of context
