Question E85 FUEL

Did a search on here and on line. And have found a lot of good info on the E85 fuel. I seen where some people are usin it. What I do not understand. How does the V6 camaro run on E85 fuel? What has to be done to the car, for it to run on E85?

I was wondering if anyone knows weather the 2012 camaro v6 can run it stock, since the impla is running the LFX engine as well and it's e85 capable.

Yes the 2012 is supposed to be E85 compliant, but you will not see the big power gains by simply running E85 in your 2012 like we see in an E85 tuned 2010 or 2011.

Don't take that as a bad thing though....I'd guess tuning for more E85 power in the 2012 would be easier. Nobody has done it yet though.

2012 LFX engines are e85 capable from factory and you guys have the advantage over non e85 capable LLT. If you have the new LFX and want to take full advantrage of e85 I would talk to vince and get him to tune the e85 side of things asap. You have no idea what you are missing

Me and vince already did a full testing on e85 on our LLT and I ran 13.5 with it and usa1 13.6 in 1/4 mile. I also pulled 284 std and 291 ASE corrected on the dyno and this was with factory intake. The wonderful thing about it is that there's so much room for even better performance.

If you are asking what type of negative effect it has running 85% ethanol on non flex fuel vehicle you are going to get 1001 different opinion. I personally don't think you are going to see any problem over the time you are going to own your camaro running e85. They had a poll over at evo forum on the longest e85 usage and the longest was going on 3 years of daily usage with zero problems. If you do a search you will get your answer on the web.

I have to tell you guys this, but unfortunately if you have hypertech you won't be able to run e85. At this time vince is the only guy who will write a e85 tune for you.

Does the e85 tune just for power? I have the LFX, and put in e85 today, engine seems to run fine, i'm doing all city today so my mpg sucks. Also didn't know if it take a few on/off for the air fuel mixture to adjust.

But I'm moving to FL where there is about 0 e85 stations, I'm in MN now where it's $.60/gal cheaper that regular. So I don't need an e85 only tune given my move in 3 months.

Do the e85 tunes Vince does have options? Like you can switch between an 89 tune, 91, and e85? I know some tunes on Audi's let you change on the stalk between tunes.

I hate to say this, but in the beginning when the LFX was advertised for the Camaro it was listed to have E85 compatibility, but now they are not advertising it that way from what I understand so you might want to be careful running on E85...as if the stock tune does not support it, it could cause issues with the car not running right.

But if the stock tune can handle E85 like it does on the impala you will be fine.

I guess if your car continues to run fine, that could be the case but until it is confirmed you had better put gas back in.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong here.

That said, If a stock E85 tune does exist, I'm sure that it does not really increase power much, if any. Letting vince alter the E85 tune would yield more power for sure.

E85 does add power due to its natural characteristics. not sure how the LFX will respond to E85, but my guess is that it will take you another fill up before you really feel the change. right now your running a mixture of gas/ethanol with throws your fuel tables/air/timing off. the ECU will adjust for it, but until your ECU reads nothing but E85 is when i believe you'll really feel the effects of it. but, i could be wrong.

as of right now, he isn't providing octane specific tunes for gas, but there is a project currently in the works.

and no, he doesn't provide options for E85 which would account for minimum ethanol levels of 70% or lower. the E85 tune is exactly that...a tune for 85% ethanol. im sure he could give you a tune for different ethanol levels, but that would require some data logging and more $$$ since it won't be free.

for somebody else (since your moving) with the 2012, it might be worth your time and look into an E85 tune since its already compatible.

the cost of e85 to miles per gallon does not make sense..... 50 or 60 cents cheaper, really......on a v-6 you might get 19 miles per gallon on highway.....on straight 92 octane i get 31 MPG.....and ive only seen E85 for about 20 or 30 cents cheaper...ok i saved 4 bucks on 15 gallons with E85 and got a tank full of corn fillers....just buy the good stuff and get good gas MPG and stop worrying about weather your cars going to have problems down the road....there going to quit making E85 anyway.....
