Doing some traveling!!

So I decided to take my first vacation this year. And I will be going on a cruise out of California. For starters, this is my first time going to California! So I'm excited about that. I'll be staying for only one night tho. I leave this Saturday afternoon and will stay in LA Saturday night. The cruise leaves Sunday and comes back on Thursday in time for my flight home! The ship is going to Catalina Island and Ensenada. I have been wanting to go on this particular cruise for a while now and I'm excited to be going. It should be a lot of fun. I have gone on 3 cruises before, all on Carnival. So I know what to expect!! It'll be nice to get out of NJ for a while. And of course I will update this thread with some pics!!

I practically grew up on Catalina Island. Or at least, I spent a lot of summer time there in Catalina Harbor. It's more likely you'll be going to Avalon, though...and much more likely to be enjoying the town.

This was Catalina Harbor back in the early 70's, where we spent most of our time...usually about 1 month out of the year.

This was Little Harbor, which is a little more out of the way.

And these last two are of my younger brother and I.

Oh wow! Thanks for the pictures and info. I am looking forward to going on this trip. Are there any spots you can recommend? Bars, attractions, shops, etc??

Depends on how long you are in port, which I would believe to be Avalon. There's a casino there, which I would guess is the main destination, with other kinds of shopping around. Typical of cruise line ports, in many ways. If you have a few hours and plan ahead, it looks like they have a 2-1/2 hour tour of the island that might be interesting. Some of the coastline on Catalina island is rocky and pretty cool, actually. The tour might even take you as far south as Catalina Harbor. They used to have Seaplanes (Grumman Goose) fly into there because it was a long protected harbor that was calm enough to land in when compared to the open ocean around there. The seaplane would pull up into that area almost in the center of the first picture and disembark passengers there.

This isn't Catalina though, just the plane. They'd land and take off about 3-4 times a day.

A lot of Catalina Island, and the other Channel Islands are very rocky with few protected harbors. This is a pretty typical place around there. Used to be a lot of Abalone. Not sure if that's been protected at all, though.

Everything is super expensive here compared to the rest of the country. Prepare yourself.
