The ones who expect a mid $40k Z28 that competes with the GT500, are going to be disappointed lol.

Not sure I agree with this statement in that you are looking at the base prices where I was comparing prices with comparable options on each model. The Mustang is actually $1k to $2k more with similarly equipped vehicles in my opinion.

I haven't gone and optioned out Mustangs and Camaros to make them comperable, but I do know that if you want to go comparably equipped with the GT500, you need to start with a striped 2SS/RS probably with the $1000 subwoofer. That will run you about $37,500 vs $47,500 for the GT500. Add in an engine that costs an extra $7000, upgraded suspension, distinctive exterior, and better tires. That stuff will cost more than $10,000.

Comparison criteria: V8 Engine, Automatic Transmission, Leather Interior, Premium Sound, HID Headlights, no stripes.
Mustang GT Premium: $36,195 Camaro 2SS/RS:$38,230 So figure about 2,000 difference between the premium GT and similarly loaded Camaro SS. If that trend were to continue, then a Z28 would be around 49,000 "base". |

I heard this from a GM staffer yesterday at the NY City Auto show: price will be" slightly
under Shelby GT 500 for OBVIOUS reasons". |

Maybe I'm just a cheap bastard With that being said if I can snag a Z/28 for $55K or under (not including tax) than I am all over it, providing I get an OK trade in for my SS. I wonder how much a 2 year old 2SS with 2500 miles on it will be worth... MSRP 37,220 - 1/3 = 24K? This is all a ways away . |
